Thank you so much for this video. Pragmatic and straight to the point. I can easily hit 60 mixer tracks after a couple of very creative hours. 15 Vulf compressors, 10 Soothe EQs, Ozone on the master = CPU meter maxed out, computer fans on overdrive.... Uh oh, think it's time to export stems!

This is great! Does it matter if you are using a separate channel solely for side-chaining (muted out)? I imagine it gets baked into the audio files.
@FlowProdOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah great question. Should be fine, just select all the groups apart from the muted side-chain track before bringing up the export form. Let me know if you have any problems

free life hack: Put an empty midi channel at the top, make an empty midi clip that's the length of your song. Next time you wanna export something full length, just click that midi clip and you're good to export.

Great video! Curious, how do you handle automations in sends and return tracks? it's the one point i'm still a little murky on in this elegant workflow.
@FlowProdOfficial
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For sends/returns, I tend to bake them into the stems during export just to keep things simple (turn on "Include Return and Master Effects" in the export menu). Whether or not there is automation on the send/return shouldn't matter. Please let me know if that doesn't make sense (or if I misunderstood).

i loved this video. was exactly what i was looking for. just one question. what's the benefit of stripping the silence?
@FlowProdOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, good question! It just makes the project a bit easier to navigate... if all the stems are stretched out, it just takes that little bit longer finding the one track you want to edit at any one point along the timeline.

What if you have all your drums in midi in a drum rack? Is the only option to duplicate it and extract chains?
@FlowProdOfficial

You can use this trick to separate drum racks: kzitem.info/news/bejne/zW9qq5Nscl-riag Does that help?

If you save as .wav the stem is named whatever group/channel name is :)
@FlowProdOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
This could be a great tip! Could you explain a little further? I tried typing in ".wav" as the stem name but that didn't seem to do the trick. Maybe I misunderstood...
@Simon-us4bn
3 жыл бұрын
@@FlowProdOfficial Sure, just export exactly as you have done, then when the 'save as' window pops up type ''.wav'' (minus quotations) as the file name. This then pulls each stem's name from the group/channel name in your project,. Also works with 'all individual tracks' when rendering. However it's worth noting that I'm on windows so I'm only assuming it's the same on Mac!
@FlowProdOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
@@Simon-us4bn ah I see. On Mac the stems get named as ".wav stemName.wav" when I try that... +1 for windows!

I have a really terrible issue and i desperately need help. I've been producing for about a year now and to cut a long story short all my projects are saved within one project (the first one i ever made) I thought it was no problem as it as organised but now that I've come to trying to move and export stems for other computers' and producers to use i realise its become a huge issue as my files are always offline. is there any way i could sort this out, thanks in advance to anyone who knows
@FlowProdOfficial
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry to hear about your issue. Give this a go: duplicate the project and rename the duplicate to the same as one of your sets. Then inside this new project, delete all the sets except for the one with that matches the new project name. Finally, go back into your old project and delete the one set with that name. You should now be left with two projects: one project with all your sets minus 1, and one project with one set. Repeat the process until all your sets have been separated into projects. It's a bit tedious but it should do the trick. Hope that helps!
