It's so refreshing to hear someone that actually gets it. I must say Johnny that you covered every nuance that others completely miss & quite frankly drives me crazy. I was a former Green Beret with a combat dive certification. The obsession with these ridiculous dive depths is pretty juvenile when you give the subject any rational thought. We were certified to 100 ft, typically operating at about 30 ft, when you get to 125 plus it ain't fun anymore so 200 m is plenty good with me. Any way you cut it the FXD is a great watch by any standard. This was my first time on your channel, you guys are great & funny as hell...,I'm now officially subscribed, thanks for making me laugh & the great display of wisdom!

Loved every minute of this... especially all the myth busting about metals and depth. I had a friend who was a dive master in the Sinai for many years and all he had was a normal Explorer 36mm --- and even that was more than enough. I didn't know about all those details about metal... fascinating.

The FXD is a true tool watch, something that Rolex would never make again. It will definitely be a future classic.
@KeepingWatchUK

It is. But then again how is the Submariner (stainless steel) not just as much a tool watch? I wear mine regularly & tbh I don’t tend to worry about it. The ceramic bezel limits scratches & the watch overall is solidly built. I think Rolex still do make some ‘tool’ watches tbh.

What does this even mean? Do you know how every single person uses their current Rolex models? Do you think everyone who bought a 4 and 5 digit Sub was a diver and GMT wearers were jetting around the world every week? I just went hiking last week wearing my 6 digit explorer. Was that wrong? Should I have asked Rolex's permission considering it is not a tool watch according to some guy named NR? Also Rolex owns Tudor. They make the FXD so even that part of your statement is wrong. My advice is buy what you like and give not two thoughts to whatever anyone else is wearing or why.

@@davidr2802I think he means Rolex has propelled itself well into the luxury segment whereas they were originally marketed as the ultimate tool watch. Tudor is kind of the what Rolex were- A high quality tool watch, whereas rolex are now more seen as luxury. Rolex are still one of (if not the best) tool watches, but are way too expensive and desirable. Personally I think the cal 3135 and 4130 are some one of the best movements ever made, but I'd rather bang up a Black Bay than a sub or a Ranger than an Explorer.

Excellent share! This video is a good representation of how selective we watch enthusiasts can be. We don't need anything over 200 meters because it's not practical and unlikely anyone will ever dive that deep. BUT.... we need grade 5 titanium.... But why? Grade 5 has a higher strength-to-weight ratio and is more heat-resistant than grade 2. But, it is unlikely that anyone will ever experience a condition in which the higher strength or resistance to heat is necessary. Grade 5 could be beneficial if the manufacturer wanted to add polished surfaces to the watch.

Speak for yourself. I love dive watches and I want them at 200m minimum. Why? Yes, obviously I won't go that deep, but I know the watch went under severe pressure testing that is evidence of how durable it is. Body, seals, glass, crown - everything as it should be and it got trough the torture. 20 bar of pressure. Otherwise you can always get a MVMT.

Was anxiously awaiting this from the last video! I’ve been waiting on mine since last September. My dealer seems to not get any in, but is expecting a couple this year. Pretty discouraging. But now seeing the U50 side by side, I’m rethinking.

I think it's worth waiting a few more months for the FXD, if your dealer will allocate you one. It really has a cool factor to it. But it's also different enough from the U50 that you won't feel that you have 2 similar watches if you get both.

It's a nice watch for sure, but at 43mm in diameter and >14mm thick, it's going to be too big for many people who want their GMT watches at 40-41mm. Also, it's been discontinued, so I wonder if Omega plans to reintroduce a new GMT in the Aqua Terra line.

I believe that you are incorrectly taking depth rating at face value. The indicate depth does not only correspond to how much static pressure the watch can withstand. Other factors include rapid change in temperature and pressure, such as diving into cold water. A higher rating will make the watch generally more resistant.

A perpetual calendar helps water tightness! The reason is that water ingress is mostly result of user error, i.e., incorrectly screwing down the crown. This is the reason that mechanical dive watches should have automatic movements. Similarly, an annual or perpetual calendar reduces the need to adjust the watch so reduces the possibility of user error.

Thank you for the insights particularly regarding the options for tropic strap brands and their nuances. I frequently wear on on my Skyflake which gives a quasi dress watch (but with 100M WR) a completely different sporty vibe as opposed to when it is on leather. Would love to see one on the ALS in the collection. 100% agree on the Artem straps. I have several color/stitching combos on both their pin buckle and deployant. I particularly like that they make them in 19mm so they fit on my GS and Planet Ocean. Cheers

@@viva360 Funny you should mention the Pelagos 39: I saw it today for the first time. Great watch, great proportions and execution. It really makes me think of a more technical Rolex 14060, and that's high praise coming from me as I love that reference. Versus the FXD and the other "standard" Pelagos models, I think it's going to be an easier watch to wear on a daily basis, less bulky, more comfortable. Had I not bought the FXD, I would have strongly considered it. But hey, I needed the FXD 22 to pass to my son who is of the same vintage, so no regrets.
