Bach's numbering system is one of the most inconsistent and unpredictable in the industry, the differences in rims between models can really mess up some players who need a consistent profile to work with their face. Binder dundat.

I got 3E, play mostly jazz and fast songs and this fits me perfectly.

👍 Sure, shallower the cup, faster the response, in general.

Why do you skip the 5c?
@weidesvideo
6 жыл бұрын
I didn't have one. These were the ones I had when making the video. I wanted to try out a 5C but it seemed >7 ones worked better. The 2 came with a used trumpet and the 3 was shipped incorrectly...

Is there a mouth piece better suited to play taps?

For slower (and classical type of) music, a regular depth or a bit deeper cup is usually preferred. Shallower cups are good for faster notes (but with reduced tonal color, i.e., bland). Larger rims deliver sounds with depths, too. All these are just my guesses and generalizations. One has to try out since own sound characteristics differ.

weidesvideo Hey, thanks for the info. I was about to start playing trumpet again, but I'm in a hospital for a while... Was thinking about getting a mouthpiece for Christmas and checked through the system and list. I have a 7c and a 7EW for sure and the other one is a 2b or a 7b... not quite sure... but a B for sure. I don't think paying 70 bucks for an a mouthpiece (on Amazon only Bach is available) would be worth it... or is the difference that big? What would you say?

'2' is a big circumference. 'B' is common/popular size for a deep cup. Again, I'm not an expert. Just how I feel with the ones I have owned (about 10 sizes). I got most of mine from Thompson's Music (no affiliation) from online. Never got to that high $70 but rare sizes just may or prices went up recently. Good luck!

I think it's usually deeper and larger cups, but more effort it takes playing them, and adaptation can be hard

@weidesvideo

Sorry for such a late reply. Didn't know they have a number bigger than 10. I would guess a 11B has a smaller rim but deeper cup compared to the most common Bach 7C.

17c? Or the common 7C? 7C should be easy to find and often it comes with the trumpet purchase. Unless you're looking for a large quantity for school?

Hey guys, I'm not able to play with a Harmon mute a la Miles Davis. I can only get going on a C, the lower notes are muted out. Any tips? Is it the mouth piece?
@teddytwit5827

Play with more air. Work on your tone without the mute, and your mute will vibrate better
