So Im actually finding this product very very handy. I dont use it how meguiars have intended it to be used.. As a wax maker Its so damn handy to be able to strip waxes from panels with a wet wash process rather than having to work abrasive pre wax cleaners over the panel by machine. Its saving me so much time having this product. Like I said in the video.. The product, is also DAMN handy for really cleaning glass out well during the wash process. It cleans glass so well. Its cleans paintwork more than just a normal non abrasive wash, but it wont remove that much bonded contamination in my opnion. Its not going to scrub off thick tar spots or remove scratches or fallout etc.. It is actually a revolution this product. Its really growing on me, in fact I will prolly never be without it now. So many times I have product on my car and I need it gone to test another product. Now I can actually remove it (most times) with having to bust out a polisher and work an abrasive cleaner over it. that is priceless. Its actually a very cool product. But Like I said in the video its a niche product, thats going to be usefull for people really into their detailing that have a specific use for it. For joe public who are not into car cleaning as much (fair enough) I dont think its giving you much (in fact the way meguiars suggest you should use it is generally going to increase the risk of swirling up your paintwork)

Forensic Detailing Channel Absolutely agree with you. I won't use it for regular washing, but I will bring it out when a need arises. Glass washing! Yes! I was hoping to remove stubborn water spots off the side glass of my 1996 Jeep Cherokee with this. It didn't. But boy did it do a nice job cleaning the glass. Felt as if I had clayed the glass! Seems it isn't getting much love this side of the pond. One retail chain even sold them for about 1 US Dollar. I'll stock up next time I see them that cheap.

the problem is the pre wash doesnt remove all the dirt film.. so you will just mitigate the problem I raised about scratching. I personally wouldnt use this like you just suggested on the 140. but sure i would probably use it like that on the golf if isnt wasnt filfthy.. I dont think its as thourough as abrasive pre wax cleaners. to really get it to strip you need to load up more with it give it a good scrub with a bit more pressure...

great video. Im going to try this out. As a professional collision/body shop detailer, I look for ways on cutting down the time I spend decontaminating paint that has years of neglect so I can put a wheel to it. Going through steps such as clay, iron remover, tar remover, paint thinner/ adhesive "citrus" remover, any product that can combine any of those is worth a shot. I can't see 90% of people out there finding a need for this. It makes me uneasy how Meguiars branded and labeled the product being that I see it as such a niche use as you mentioned. They should have advertised as a reset decontamination "clay-ish" shampoo and I would be even more excited. Your views are spot on here man!

You hit the nail on the head, it’s a niche product and it works brilliantly at removing old wax lightly polishing and setting you up for decontamination before polishing. It’s the only thing I use it for. And it’s how Meguiar’s should have marketed it because there is going to be a lot of people who inadvertently strip their wax off and micro-abrade their paint.

I hate washing my van, in fact I realised it had been over a year, so yesterday I gave this stuff a go and it did a good job. Had to get something into the bottle to mix it up because it does separate. Took a couple of hours giving the van a good clean. The shampoo suds up very well and I like the way you do one bit at a time and then rinse the mitt and panel with the hose. Day two effort today with a clay mitt and then waxed and buffed by hand. Still to do the interior!

I would like to see some additional testing, specifically; 1-On a corrected, clean panel, does the product leave micromarring 2-Wash a dirty panel with it, then hit the panel with a fallout remover. Did the Megs remove the fallout or was a significant portion left behind? 3-Wash a dirty panel with it, then clay bar the panel. How much contamination was left and picked up with the clay? 4-How does it fare vs bugs. We have a lot of them here and I haven't found a magic bullet for them other than scrubbing with a bug sponge.
@ForensicDetailing
6 жыл бұрын
1) the product does not micromarr.. if any product did this it would be a momumental turkey. 2) not sure what this test is proving? 3) that could be interesting. I think you would need a really heavily contaminated panel. I dont think megs wash plus will strip much contaminant. A little bit. 4) It helps a little bit with stuck on crap.. but to be honest. its not solving the bug removal problem because of the abraives. the contact with the mitt is the thing with shifts the crap off more than the abrasives.

you raised some good points. I didnt say hello either sorry. I get into the habbit of flying through the comments firing off answers without saying hello :) its ability to remove bonded contaminants is pretty minimal imo.. very hard to say.. but if you had a visable spot of tar on your car and you tried to scrub it off with this.. you would fail. It will help lift the stuff that you generally cant see that makes the paint feel rough.. so it will do a bit of very light decon generally.

I remember watching this quite some time ago and after having used it for the third or fourth time on my own car, I can agree with your findings on the stripping power of this product vs wax. It stripped my layer of super resin polish and my go to wax, which is known for its durability both real world and chemically. That actually caught me by surprise. All the hidden imperfections SRP masked and the water beading from the wax vanished completed, and that in of itself was mighty impressive for a wash product. Couldn't agree more on the ability to clean glass very well. If you were to wash your glass with this and use a product like Gyeon Wet Coat or CarPro Hydro2 (or Lite) on the glass itself, rinse that off thoroughly, you then don't have to worry about fighting soapy stains or water marks that you may normally have to deal with having washed all the other panels and rinsed them - I find glass is the worst for soapy stains. Thanks again for this video, Jon!

I think it's a great product but for a very niche purpose. It's a nice 'bang for your buck' claybar treatment within a soap which is great cause usually after claybar you're going to have to polish the car to get the paintwork up to snuff. However, this in combination with an Iron remover means you get somewhat of a similar result as claybar without having to polish the car after, which is great for people who don't want a very comprehensive detail on their car

It would be very "INTERESTING" if you washed and dried that test panel half with the wash+ and the other half in the "safest way"you see fit and compared the results. The reason is I've tried so many times to correct paint and no matter how carful I wash it end up with swirls (maybe is me...)now I just wash carefully and correct once a year a lot less stressful.

it would yer.. I think may well correct up the bonnet. but a line of tape with a raised folder in the tape line. wash one half with a safe method a good mitt etc.. wash the other half by rinsing and using this product as described. thing is its not going to show anything people dont already know. If you work dirt over your paintwork you generally scratch it. the mitt choice plays an important role as well. pre wash important too.. pressure from a pressure washer can be important

On just about any product I first test it out on a clear glass panel. Any harm or mess the product is going to do will show up plainly. Now glass is harder than clear coat. Now you see, this kind of product may work in a sunshine state like florida where dirt to their cars is actually like dust on ours, therefore a rinse will work before using the product. Where as here in the UK dirt is a lot more damaging and road film is not removed by simple rinsing. The product is certainly not suitable for a detailer, but it delivers for someone looking for an effective cleaner as the abrasive will take a lot off. for the general public clean but scratched paint is still clean paint.

Would love to see you play with this stuff and upload a conclusion to its purpose and personal opinion on suitable instructions. Like doing another test panel, clean it properly first and test the ability to decontaminate vs. clay bar or clay towels, a test panel to check if this actually adds scratches to a polished surface (effectively limiting its use to pre-correction scenarios only if so). Great work! Love watching your videos.

Sounds like a good Shampoo to use before going out and polish your car, could potentially remove the need to clay bar your car, saving some time, it is indeed, hummm, interesting! I can see me using it in my wife´s car, it is a van that sits outside, my wife don´t take proper care of the car so I use Fuso Wax, the strong stuff to protect a little from the enviroment, bird crap, etc... I apply it once every season (the car is barely cleaned once a month...), so 4 times a year and I don´t realy care if the car needs polishing or not to remove marks, it is not going to be showroom car, I just need the protection that prevents the paint from cracking and fading over time as we intend to keep the car for years to come, so, I think I may try this product to wash that car before the application of this wax.

I used Meguiars WPS to wash my car with a buck full of water and foam first then rinsed. Then I washed again applying it directly to the mitt scrubbed with medium pressure and rinsed. I am convinced it removed some very sharp bonded contaminates. It does strip wax it is not a maintenance wash product. I clay barred after and my clay step went much quicker. My plan is to machine polish then wax. I agree I would not use it again unless I am intent on waxing that cycle. I will bring out and use it for windows anytime.

agree david, I use it for my intense cleaning. problem is meguiars interface with the wider market. This product is actually very usefull for the small niche market as more of a decon preperation wash.. helpfull for removing product, old waxes etc. really getting at the paintwork. they created a vision for it to present to the wider market. you can see that vision in their advert video for it. It would have scared a lot of people off if the product decription talked about removing protection etc.. dunno but I would have loved them to define it in a way that meant people could actually utilise it properly even if they meant they sold less. easy for me to say though.

Today with much more hindsight, meguiar's wash plus ➕ is a great shampoo when used a little differently from meguiar's direction!. Example for a complete decontamination it is an excellent base. You need a good prewash (snow foam or apc), a good rinse to remove as much debris as possible, road film, etc. A ferrous decontamination step, rinsing. And right now it's a great shampoo. Because it effectively erases wax, sealant, spray, a test on the xaronfr channel even managed to remove a certain amount of ceramic by insisting a little with the glove and the shampoo. Too bad meguiar's discontinued it, because it really is a great decontamination shampoo before the other steps to put on a coating. Even for the mechanical decontamination step with clay bar, using meguiar's wash plus can then help the clay bar to have fewer things to remove.

I wonder if this is more intended for the mass market customer. The one who normally uses the automatic car wash or dish soap and a dirty rag. The one who wants easy and fast and doesn't care so much about perfection. I imagine it might give a level of clean and decontamination that type of consumer would be impressed by. Good warning there for the general car owner.But this is nothing new, products like this e.g. shampoos with abrasives have been around for a long time. However, no way would you use that as a direct first wash and only wash stage. You’d have to citrus pre-wash/foam then incorporate a normal shampoo and rinse stage before then applying this. Is it the case that once you’ve done that you could by pass the paint cleaning stage and go straight to wax re-application? As you say Jon this may appeal to some people who want a quick detailing prep for wax without using machine polishers and pre-wax cleaning products. Somehow I think the genuine enthusiast will not go for this and stay with the tried and trusted methods which have proved themselves to be reliable.

I have not tested sealants against it.. but I had a week old durability wax on the car and it was gone after a good scrub with this... how much you scrub will effect its ability to strip.. but I think it will easily strip the old reminants of most sealants and waxes.. It wont be as thourough as an abrasive pre wax cleanser on a machine polisher though.. but good enough for most scenarios to them go on and lay down a sealant or wax.

So it’s best feature is it’s stripping ability? So do your full wash cycle then use this to strip wax if you want to reapply another wax would be the way to use this.

A great product to use before a paint correction job or to strip wax & road debris to apply a new wax or sealant.

I havent used this as its not available to me but I see this as a product to strip old LSP and prep paint for new sealants or waxes. For someone who likes trying new stuff all the time this would be a very usefull product on cars that are very well maintained. I would however not use it as a wash shampoo (I would still wash the car in a more traditional way and use Megs wash + after wash to strip the old wax and prepare paint for new). BTW you can make your own abrasive car shampoo. Just mix a bit of finishing polish and a pure shampoo and it will work similar to Megs wash plus.

hmm interesting :) how much is a bit though? and what else is in the carrier systems of all these different finishing polishes? Always gotta be carefull when you go off-piste with products :) could work though.

That is where you have to test a bit. Ive put about 5ml of Menz 3500 to 50ml of shampoo. I feel it wasnt strong enough so perhaps more polish would have been needed. You can check out this vid kzitem.info/news/bejne/w4ui4KKkpZ6UlJg Its in German but its pretty much self explanatory.

Such a shame this was discontinued. I've still got 1 and 1/2 bottles and I'm treating the stuff like liquid gold while I figure out a way to reproduce such a product. It's unlikely another company will step in and make a similar item, on a count of the poor sales, but I'm still hoping. Maybe Scott and DPC will.

it is a shame. but I dont buy the explanation that the product didnt sell. I wonder if they just spotted it was a flawed concept?

@@ForensicDetailing Maybe. Mixed with a good TFR pre-soak and some lubrication on the panel before touching it, this stuff was a great choice for decon washes for me, so hopefully they do update or improve it in the future, with more of a concern for those who might cause those micro scratches by following their admittedly sketchy directions.

A must have for me. I use it all the time on customer cars. Often times people have no idea what is on their paint as far as protection is concerned. This absolutely cuts down the amount of claying needed ( doesn't eliminate claying totally of course ) and does a good job of stripping protection. For a pro detailer this is a time saver. Glad you also mentioned its glass cleaning power. Any time I can use one product versus 3 or more that's a win for me.

For me this product would be great when someone brings me a knackered old car that they just want to look shiny when its covered in scratches and swirls from years of neglect and poor washing. This product would be better than all my gentle 3 step rinse, foam, safe wash that I would usually do. But it's definitely NOT something I would use on anything nice. Maybe wheels...

Think it would be better to pre wash your car and throughly pressure wash afterwards and then use the wash plus product.

Think I'm going to invest in some to make my Hybrid ceramic wax last a bit longer as the beading on my paint work doesn't last long as they must be contaminates on the car. On the bonnet it seems to last 3 or 4 weeks and surely it should be longer or is 3 or 4 months wish full thinking lol.
@ForensicDetailing

prep is key I think you should get 3-6 months with that hybrid wax product. shake it well. seems to loose potency as the bottle gets older as well. but its easy to hurl more on if you want fresh beading. this shampoo will actually degrade protection due to the abrasives in it.

@@ForensicDetailing What was ment is use abrasive shampoos 1st to get any contaminants off the use the ceramic wax. Once the wax is on just use a regular shampoo.

Do you think this product is removing wash mitt induced scratching real time. I personally see this as the future. They can formulate the polish to counter the dirt based scratches real time.

Maybe use this as a second stage.... Wash the car firstly with a regular shampoo then use this raher than claying ! Dont think it will be any good for me as living in Spain I struggle enough with product drying out.

So, would you recommend that I wash the car first as per my normal AG snow foam method, rinse off then wash again but using Meguirs Wash Plus to do a strip off of protection then reapply protection? I normally reapply protection every 4-6 months.

One KZitem reviewer gave this product a "Home run", but not "Grand Slam". His viewpoint was that it will appeal to 70% of the buying public. If you are doing a clay process afterwards, you are probably going to get micro scratches anyway.

its not the best way to use it.. the abrasives are pointless if you dont work them with contact. also you dont want to leave this on panels where the risk of it drying are higher.. that being said honestly if you have got good results using it that way, thats all that matters.

Forensic Detailing Channel I never said it was the best way to apply. What I said was this way will not strip wax nor mar the paint.. The best way to apply would be to follow directions and end up with stripped lsp and scratched paint like you showed right?

I presume there's nothing stopping you doing a prewash prior to using this shampoo though
@ForensicDetailing
6 жыл бұрын
no and you should of course.. problem is, even a prewash wont leave the paint dirt free. You can argue thats not meguiars fault. but the thing is really to ulitise the abrasives you need to work them over the panels, otherwise theres no point in having them.. when you do that (in my opinion) that panel needs to be fully dirt free. You can never really achieve that unless you do a contact wash first. so its almost like to get the most out of this product you need to use it on a clean car.. And thats not a good usage principle for a product thats designed the be used to clean a car.. kind of a catch 22. Thats why it becomes a niche product that I cant use the way megs tell me to use it.. This wouldnt even be an issue, if the product was branded differently and the user instructions catered for that. It doesnt even mention on the bottle that it strips protection.

Very interesting Video. I would use it to get harder polymer coatings of the paint. For that purpose is it a good product. But on the other hand am I asking myself if you can't mix such a product yourself by using a cheap shampoo a little bit of polish product.
