Valley of Snakes is a *siiiiick* band. He's developed a very Erik Rutan-esque sound to his low growls and I'm all about it.

Always thought he was super underrated. I think The Breeding Process or Cycles of Haruspex show off more of his range but I’m stoked to see this era of Aversions Crown get some coverage. Podia is super impressive live as well. I always loved how he’ll start a sentence full and clear and then the last word he’ll switch to sewage mode. He’s started experimenting with adding more false fold on the new Valley of Snakes project.

Somehow on Mark's Valley of Snakes project, he's developed some of the most feral false chord lows. Definitely worth checking out. Still the best live vocals I've ever heard

really need to check out Valley Of Snakes, Mark Poida has much more false chord influence in his deeper gutturals now and his range is really showcased on that project more so than a track like this. Poida is so underrated this was amazing to finally see on the channel 🥹

Looking forward to this one! And I was watching your knocked loose video, even if you don’t do a reaction, their K! Pit is amazing and Bryan dances but is very stable when he’s screaming the whole time. He takes a second to get into place. It’s a great watch if you haven’t seen it and a great small crowd

Would you guys ever considering doing live versions of songs if they're decent enough quality? I feel like it would take a lot of the guessing out on Mark's end plus there would be less studio stuff that obscures the vocal techniques. For example, there's a Brutal Assault video of Aversion's Crown and the quality is great. I think Audiotree has done a few deathcore acts as well.

I feel you on the songwriting aspect bigtime! I'm mainly a guitarist but I've been dabbling in vocals for the better part of the last 12 or so years and haven't done anything serious with it until this past July when I released my first album. As a sidenote, thanks to all of the tips and tricks I've picked up thanks to your videos, the album 2 process is thankfully a lot smoother. Hands down the biggest struggle was getting into different cadences and trying to balance the vocals with the instrumentation. Looking at it from a one-man-band perspective helps in a way that one might not necessarily get when focusing strictly on one aspect of a song, but even at that it can be a huge struggle. Overall songwriting and looking at vocals from the perspective of instrumentation (as opposed to just words) is a huge help - at least thats what I find helpful, and you can lay out cadence and tonal shifts in the same way you might write guitar riffs as an example. Thanks for all the helpful breakdowns and explainers over all the videos so far!

I miss this band. Their ambient guitar melodies are so unique and beautiful. And you can definitely hear their influence on bands today. I mean hell, so many deathcore bands have that shit now, and if you know this band, you know it started with them. Even back in their first LP. But especially with this album. Not to mention Poida fit so well. I wish they were still all together, making us more beautifully devastating deathcore music.

The plural for larynx is larynges/larynxes!

On moving the larynx, I've 0 professional training (i will sign up soon!) I definitely feel like changing the location can allow me to hit a harmonic that allows me to make more of my chest space, i can both feel it and hear it. For me the point hasn't been to lower it as much as possible to get the lowest low, but to find that sweet spot where the resonance rattles my ribcage. it suddenly sounds louder, which could just be because my eardrums are inside my skull, but i feel like i project more as well. Do others have a similar experience?

@GainDamage
Жыл бұрын
Since hiccups are the sound your diaphragm does while contracting and releasing really fast, I wouldn't say it's a bad thing, only annoying. While you scream you are tightening your abdominal muscles to maintain a certain pressure on your diaphragm, so maybe it is getting irritated somehow.

Ov Sulfur would be a good look to check out and break down. The vocalist Ricky was in Suffocation before, and he uses some dope cleans with Ov Sulfur on top of lows, mids, highs and pig squeals. Especially Stained In Rot. The ending minute would be interesting to break down vocally, plus the breakdown would give you mad stank face just like it did me.
