I don't think you've heard "Brothers in Arms" yet, have you?? (Dire Straits cover) I consider it probably their best work (so far, anyway!). Hauntingly beautiful with 5-part harmonies that'll shake your soul! Tim & Chance lead, singing as soldiers dying on the battlefield...praising their brothers in arms, while lamenting the sadness and futility of war. Tim's breathy bass is so perfect for telling the story.

Not to say anything against Home Free but Pentatonix started the whole ball rolling. Five members that make magic happen. They lead but Home Free came in not but maybe a year or two behind them so it’s been a decade for HF and 11 going on 12 for Pentatonix. Then Voice Play ce came much better known although they came before both Pentatonix and HF. They are totally independent from big companies and are much more local area (Florida) based. That have worked in the entertainment areas like Disney and other resorts but they also have changed people in and out thru the years. Both PTX and HF have been mostly able to keep the same people thru the years with only one or two changes in people. All of the groups are fantastic in their own way.🥰🥰🥰💐🤗🤗🤗

@@nicklenights Everybody is definitely allowed to their own opinion. 👍 Music is wonderful that way. 🤗 I actually found HF by following a link on a PTX video. I liked their Christmas stuff, but most of the other stuff just doesn't do it for me (except for "Imagine"!!!). HF touches something in me no matter what they're singing. ❤ Oh, and not sure if you know, but HF has been around since Jan 2001! They're going on 23 yrs, not 10. 👍 They did have quite a few rotations in members that first decade, but the core group has basically been together since around 2009 with only 2 changes since then. They toured constantly, although at smaller venues (but like 200+ days a year, which is ridiculous!). They also did guest entertainment on cruise lines - it's how they met their high tenor! They'd already put out a few albums plus a couple Christmas albums before they won the Sing Off in 2013! I know PTX had 3 members that knew one another from school, but the band wasn't actually formed until just before the Sing Off (in 2011/2012?). Tim (the bass in HF) had already had a whole songwriting career in California and put out a solo album before joining HF. Austin (high tenor) was working as entertainment on a cruise line and before that was singing with the Voices of Liberty at Epcot/Disney. The main difference in the 2 groups now (I consider them the top 2, in reality) - discounting the music genres - is that PTX took the recording contract they won and ran with it...and it has apparently served them quite well. They are heavily promoted, get nominated for Grammies, etc. HF *hated* their contract and couldn't wait to get out from under the thumb of the record company! They bought out their contract and are now under their own label. That hurts a band majorly, but gives them SO much freedom to do what they want, how they want. 😉 Anyhow, I think they're both great bands, a capella or not, who have 10 extremely talented individuals between them!! ❤

To me, this is complex in it's simplicity... A true masterpiece. The difficulty level of this is insane!! First, you've got one lone voice, Chance, against a stark background. No accompaniment. Then there's 2 voices (when Rob joins Chance) singing in unison, perfectly, is just crazy!!! Two voices that truly sound like one. Extremely hard to do. Then the precise cutoffs with perfect synchronization. No bleeding phrase to phrase. No room for mistakes. Just quiet, staccato-like, cutoffs. Then you get to the blending & harmony as the song progresses with each level of harmony coming in, still keeping the synchronization perfect. Then, the massive bass drops!! My word!.... Then there's the ending with them flowing ever so slightly on the last note with those small subtle harmony changes. The entire arrangement is gorgeous. Those chord structures! The dissonant notes! This one truly shows their skills & they must've practiced it for hours for days to get it to that level. And they do it all, remaining in black keeping it simple as not to disturb the mood or vocal clarity. Absolutely incredible!!! This is one of my favs (can you tell? 😄) by them because the entire video leaves me in awe! Thx for doing this one!! Great reaction!

Yes, Austin is the higher tenor. Chance directed this one, with the greatest respect for Crosby, Stills and Nash (and I was buying that album the minute it dropped).. Adam is lending his tenor voice to the arrangement, bringing in a 5-part harmony beyond description. The mastery of Home Free cannot be measured. Five beautiful voices blending into one perfect instrument.

This is one of my favourite HF covers - I'm of a similar generation and had had parents who introduced me to everything from Motown to Led Zepplin which I really appreciate! With the tenors - if it's really bell tone it tends to be Austin, if it's sweeter it's Rob - and with the bass end the bone shaking dragon is Tim and the smokey warm is Chance :-)

Hi Ginger! I love watching new folks find the beautiful music made by the talented gentlemen of Home Free, going farther and farther into the rabbit hole! These 5 men must have had an angel's guidance to ensure they came together, as the harmonies they make truly can touch the soul. In one reaction you stated you enjoy patriotic music; you will love God Bless The USA, in which they were joined by the Singing Sergeants of the Armed Forces, recorded during the pandemic when the 5 were separated due to Covid. It is extraordinary, to say the least. I have two other songs I personally recommend, which truly spotlight the incredible talents of Home Free: Go Rest High On That Mountain and Brothers in Arms. It is just about heartbreaking that Austin is leaving, although I'm sure we can all agree that we understand that he wants time to focus on family for a while. Traveling and being away from your wife so much and hoping to just have time to enjoy each others company and also the hopes of children is a reality. Having worked in the oil field most my life I was rarely home for the holidays. So I know where he is coming from. Austin is the high tenor and the high notes are his. Rob is impressive and is often the "glue" in the middle that holds everything together as the low or lead tenor. A fun fact is when Austin is singing lead and Home Free needs a harmony higher than Austin, it is Tim who does it. Tim is a deep bass, but he can harmonize higher than Austin 's singing. It's mind blowing how extensive Tim's range is. He can also hit low notes easily that other basses struggle to reach.

Rob sings "ACA Top 10 Movie Themes" with VoicePlay. Tim & Austin's side project "Sweet & Low Music Co." is well worth a watch too. Keep diving down the rabbit hole!

Another amazing upgrade by Home Free! For more phenomenal 5-part mastery please add I Can’t Outrun You to your list. Chance takes the lead and the beautiful video concept and direction was by him as well.

You should listen to some of Home Free's collaborations: Children Where Do I Send Thee with Kenny Rogers, One Voice with Billy Gilman and American Pie with Don McLean. Another band suggestion Mike and the Mechanics: The Living Years

@@ginger_snapz_369 The Living Years is a very beautiful and emotional song. However, One Voice is the most emotional song I have ever heard.

"Helplessly Hoping" and "Brothers in Arms" are two of my Home Free favorites, they are both 5-part harmony and leave me breathless every time I hear them. Home Free's harmonies are unparalleled, in my opinion. They never disappoint no matter the genre. Subbed to witness your Home Free journey.

No beatboxing in this one, so we get Adam Rupp's voice as the 5th part. His beatboxing is incredible, but I always enjoy it when he adds his beautiful voice to the others'.

2 other great songs of many by Homefree are (Dire Straits) Brother In Arms & Folsom Prison, both awesome. An Australian singer you may enjoy also is a bloke named John Farnham. His rendition of the Beatles Help & Led Zepplin's Black Dog. Awesome.

You make, ma cheri, a grande assessment when you speak of this product...and they themselves. BUT, what I covet in knowing is if they do the post-production Editing/Mixing/Layering and such, THAT is where the REAL magic occurs !

With the out of this world vocal ranges of Tim and Chance, it gets really hard to tell who's doing which part at times. Have you covered their version of "Mayday" originally by Cam? It's also pretty cool to hear Adam sing too since he's usually busy taking care of the percussion and other sounds

After brothers in arms I would suggest listening to “mayday” if you want you’re mind blown over the octave range of Tim and actually all of the guys. I love this group if you haven’t caught on lol lol

One commenter advised that I not listen to Mayday until I'm told I'm ready. I'm not sure what that means exactly, but it makes me want to listen to it right away. Lol 🤣

Great reaction! I just discovered your channel, so I don't know what all you've already heard from my favorite acapella group, but you just listened to 1/3rd of what I call the Home Free Trifecta of Sheer Vocal Perfection, along with "How Great Thou Art" and "Brothers in Arms." Absolutely stunning.
