Good question, Pierre! So, as you know, we’re basically codeswitching on the daily. Rappler is a news media outlet that is mainly in English. I think BINI was speaking mostly in Tagalog because it was directed at the domestic fans at the time. :)

When the interviewer asked the members what they would have become if not idols, Colet said if her brain and soul can take it, she'll study law. I must say she's so adorable for saying this. 😚 The members said Colet is good at picking a fight/winning arguments, so being a lawyer naturally fits her. And they were laughing about that.

Hey Pierre thanks for this reaction! To answer your question regarding the host speaking in english when asking questions to the girls and them speaking taglish or Tagalog in response, I guess and I feel they just wanted to be themselves and relaxed during that show which generally makes them default to speak in the native language or Taglish (mixed Tagalog and English).
@Steveyyyy1032

Regarding on why the host was speaking mostly in English and the girls answering on Filipino/Tagalog, the thing is its so normal for us to switch back and forth between the two languages that probably no one in that room nor any Filipino viewers paid attention to it until your brought it up LMAO. It probably sounds weird for foreigners but we are so used to it that it has become quite a norm for us.

Colets says, she wants to be a "Abogado" or "Lawyer" "Pahinga" means "Rest", "Break", "Pause" etc Sometimes answering a question in "Tagalog" is more detailed than english. Rappler is an english news outlet.Thats why the host questions is in english. Q&A in english it is depends on who are the target listeners. But yes they could answer it in tagalog so they can express and answer it better.

36:04 these interviews don't have a "formal" or more accurately a "fixed" format. Rappler mostly (if not all the time) uses English in reporting and publishing articles maybe that is why the mediator/interviewer used English. The target audience also are Filipinos so there's no need to enforce a rule that they can't talk in their vernacular.

Tabing Ilog was a musical play where Jhoanna played the lead role. About BINI answering in Tagalog even if the questions are in English, that’s really something normal here in the Philippines. We’re really a bilingual culture such that we switch language often, even midsentence. The show didn’t really have a specific format as to language, but it really depends on the prefence of the one speaking. Like Aiah, she’s more comfortable with English and Bisaya than tagalog.

I think the moderator/hosts in general in any events here in PH usually use ENGLISH . I don't really know the reason why. but it's just a thing here. One of the main influence maybe is the pageantry industry since most of the time English is used to train the models in handling English Introductions, Q&A, and dealing with the English Enviroment when they compete internationally . And other events also follow this format since it sounds more formal and catchy for the filipino crowd . And BINI was answering in tagalog to express their thoughts more comftably except Aiah&Mikha since they are more comfortable in speaking English than tagalog .

Filipino and English are the official languages here. We usually mix the 2. We'd only speak in full English if the set-up and the target audience is for the international viewers. I see international Twitter users joking around about getting so hooked on a post made by Filipinos then all of a sudden, the next sentences (which are mostly the climax of the story 😂) will be in Tagalog. ✌🏻🤣

Colet just said that she wants to be a lawyer 😅 "Pahinga" means rest About Bini that they respond in Tagalog even if the host is asking them in English, I think there is no rule for it and they have the freedom to do so in what way do they respond especially if the main audience were just from the Philippines. Rappler is expected to use more English though since they are an online broadcasting company that caters the middle to upper class as English in the Philippines is viewed as the language of the elites.
