Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzitem.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Well done video - just one comment that when measuring resistance between motor windings (or any other electrical circuit), at least on of the leads should not touch your fingers. Around 8:00, the wires are being held to the leads by the fingers - this may affect the readings depending on your body resistance. If you had sweaty hands, your readings may be inaccurate and not add up for the total winding reading.

Ok, In your diagram I would like to clarify that the common and start don’t share a cap. What I think ur trying to describe is the common on the capacitor, btw two separate things. The common winding is a main leg and should be at the point of your diagram where ur “run” is oddly located. The run leg shares cap with start leg winding allowing for starting/operating torque of motor.

first of all, very insightful video. I have one question though, while you have taken out the fan, there were four wires and you have connected YELLOW-PURPLE and BROWN-ORANGE for CCW direction spin.This moment only two wire is coming out of fan. My question is while you were measuring the resistance, you have taken the measurements between Brown-black , Black-Yellow & Yellow-brown. Here there are three wires. I am so confused. Is the brown wire is the same on coming out of fan or there is some more connections which is not shown in video. Hope this is not stupid ques??

if you know how you could connect to the power going to the fan,put it to fan "on" and see if you have 240v,if so and you have a good capacitor i would suspect the motor and we are talking about the air handler?and since you say it has a capacitor its not an ecm motor?

+asifkhan khan Air conditioners have much greater working loads than refrigerators. Refrigerators cool down 30 cubic feet in an insulated box, air conditioners cool down over 5, 000 cubic feet of poorly insulated space. Amps directly correlate to the work load a motor can support. That's why they cannot be compared. Cheers.

the fan motor is a indoor blower motor it was riged to work so it did not last because it 1 was incorectly wired. 2 it is not a water resistent motor and this is not a good video to learn from because he should haave from the beginning told every one it was the wrong motor . and he is checking his resistance the wrong way , you need to pull your wires from the contactor and capacitor first then check ohms.

Can a bad fan motor damage a new capacitor? My fan stopped spinning in my ac unit. I put in a 40/5/440 capacitor (made by different company than what was in unit...both are 40/5/440). The fan ran for about 45 min then stopped and would not turn on again. Both capacitors are rated -6% +6%...whatever that means.
@donniethorntontemp
9 жыл бұрын
no, a new cap cant damage a fan motor. you might have had a fan going bad. Also, you might have a wrong rating capacitor in the beginning (if the unit is old, some HVAC tech jsut put wrong stuff in) along with an aged fan will also cause issues. Finally, you might have hooked it up wrong or have loose contacts or now another part isnt work. e.g. the contactor/relay or fuse.

The label for common, run and start on this motor is correct. Other motors can have common and run label switched. It doesnt matter what its called for either common and run. What is important is the 120VAC on both R and C. you should always look at the schematic and see what orientation your unit has.

DIY Tinker Hi again, checked both the relay and capacitor and looks fine. I had a local HVAC guy come out to rewire and bypass the wires coming from the circuit board to the cap and relay and now the fan kicks on like its suppose to without hesitation, but its tripping the house breaker. the guy says it looks like a motherboard or circuit board issue inside the unit is acting up. It will startup normally when I set to "cool" and "auto" on the thermostat but once it gets to the desired set temp the fan will stop, however if the house temp starts rising again pass the set temp, the fan will not startup. The only way I can get it to start again is by turning the thermo switch from "cool" to "off " setting, flipping/reset the tripped breaker and then turning the thermostat from "off" position back to "cool" Do you think its the thermostat thats acting up?
@DIYTinker
10 жыл бұрын
Hello Bye I think you should first check your breaker. Ive seen similar issue before and the breaker got old where it cannot handle its max current any more. That would be a cheaper and easier fix. If fixing the breaker doesnt solve it, then something is pulling too much current (e.g. your fan or compressor, etc...) But, no, i do not believe your control board would do that, and no i do not believe your thermostat would do that either. Keep me updated. this is interesting. p.s. i do have a video on replacing the breaker: how to repair replace broken circuit breaker - multiple Electric outlet not working - fuse box panel
