Guys, I wanna thank you so much! I'm from Brazil and wish to study at St. Andrews Classics and Literature. Thank you to show me how this degree works. I am finishing my first graduation in Theology, a kind of literature study, since the classical period to the modern world. In my degree, I have already study greek too! And it is awesome. I am loving your videos, please keep going.

Hi, I’m an Italian student and I’ve got a conditional offer for Comparative Literature and German at St Andrews. I’m so excited to start! My question might be extremely dumb: do you get your textbooks in advance, or are you given the syllabus once you start your course? Besides, do you buy your books or borrow them at the library? I have no idea how this works, sorry
@justkiki3091

Firstly, congratulations on your offer! I hope you have a great time studying here! In regard to books and text books these can be purchased from Blackwells in the student's union during freshers week - they'll be discounted for students compared to buying them in Waterstones or on Amazon etc. Sometimes departments do send out reading lists during the summer once everyone's offers are confirmed however typically for freshers this doesn't happen. You'll generally receive your reading list and syllabus in the first week. I would highly recommend once you're here to buy your books - you'll be using them a lot. Some people do borrow textbooks and primary reading material from the library but there is never enough so do buy them! Hope that helps, let me know if you have any more questions. Tom :)

Hiya- If you apply to St. Andrews for joint honours in English lit and history, do you have to have the same entry requirements for each as listed on the website as if you were doing a single honours? So for English for example it’s an A in English I believe and the same for history - an A in history. Do you have to get both these grades to do a joint honours or do you only have to have an a level in one for example? Tyy x

hi love! so i think it depends on what the uni replies (they may have it on the joint honours page but bear in mind that when you do a joint degree with those subjects you need to specify which type of history: ancient, medieval, middle eastern, or modern). it usually is an A that they're asking for in both subjects. if you're applying with ucas, they'll tell you what offer they're giving you (e.g. AAA) x lmk if you have any more questions

hii, I'm from the Netherlands and I would love to study art history at St. Andrews. are there many students from outside the uk?

Hey, St Andrews is such a diverse university with over 120 different nationalities represented in the undergraduate scheme alone. So many people you will meet in lectures, tutorials, halls and societies are from outside the UK and its a really varied student population and experience. This is especially true for Art History because of the wide scope of international art studied. If you want any more specific information about international students in St Andrews this link should help: www.st-andrews.ac.uk/study/support/international-students/

Hi Kiki and Tom, I just wanted to ask that since I have applied for a Biology degree at St Andrews which is 40 credits in the first year, would I be able to take Earth Sciences and English literature which are also 40 credits each, making a total of 120 credits? Or is it possible to take just Biology and English making a total of 80 credits in first year? Also, would I still be taking English in the second year if it is not part of a joint degree with Biology? Hope you are both well and staying safe! xx
@justkiki3091

hi gal! I believe you need to complete 120 credits per year as a requirement so anything that fulfills that criteria and does not clash with your biology lectures and labs will work. hope you're also staying safe x let us know if you have any other questions! kiki

@@justkiki3091 Thank you so much! I'll just ask a few more questions if that is okay :). When and how do you have to choose your credits (do we have to choose them before starting university?) How did you decide to choose yours? (did you do English and History alongside anything else?) Sorry for bombarding you with a load of questions. Also, your youtube channel has been really helpful (and enjoyable)! xx

@@heidi.b7340 so i believe you can choose your credits during freshers week - you will meet with your advisor and they will just check everything works out on your timetable and that's pretty much it! so i did 2xEnglish, 2xMedieval History, 1xModern History and 1xComparative Literature in my first year. there's a large list of all the modules running called the module catalogue (www.st-andrews.ac.uk/coursecatalogue/ug/). this is the one from this year but the modules that run for 1st and 2nd years are pretty much all the same - they should all be 1000 modules. and no worries! let us know if you have any more questions x kiki

Any experience with "beginner level" language classes? Is it approached in the same way, just at a slower pace?
@justkiki3091
4 жыл бұрын
It is not approached in the same way as a beginners class is approached in school, but since some classes are smaller you have more of an opportunity to interact with your teacher and you learn more of the language quicker which benefits you in the long run.
@justkiki3091
4 жыл бұрын
An example would be that an advanced class would feature more reading of difficult literature whereas (at least in first year) the beginner classes are meant to help you learn as much about the basics of the language in speaking and grammar.

lily hayward hi gal! Tom lives in University Hall and I (kiki) live in a flat in town. But I lived in halls last year and we both know plenty between us - it’s quite good in the sense that there are many different halls dotted across the town (some are more like flats where you are in a flat with 5 or 6 people, others are more like rooms down a corridor). But don’t worry, we are planning on talking about accommodation in a lot more detail in a video coming very soon! We’re going to show you rooms and tell you about catering or self catering and how some halls have en-suites and others are shared etc. Feel free to let us know any specific questions you have so we can include them in the video ❤️
