After following the Ocean Path from Otter Point to Sand Beach, I then turned inland to make a loop hike traversing Gorham Mountain. I started out on the Bowl trail which divides Gorham Mt and the more famous Beehive Mt. This is one of the most congested areas of the park and people were everywhere. More Fall foliage was on display in this part of the park as i continued on the wet and rocky path. Soon the path split and I wet left onto the Gorham Mt trail to begin my ascent. The deep colorful forest began to give way to a more scattered forest of pine, fir, and spruce. Large slabs of rock opened up the pathway. I got my first views of the Atlantic Ocean below and views of the larger interior mountains of Acadia. The hiking was outstanding. I moved slowly and soaked in my surroundings. I continued climbing and found more pitch pines and open patches of granite. I soon reached the 518 foot summit of Gorham, marked by a weathered wooden sign. The views were phenomenal, even with the grey and dull skies. The trail reached another fork and I chose to follow the Cadillac Cliffs trail back to the Ocean Path. The descent was steep and rugged, and the trail caught me by surprise. It hugged the base of Cadillac Cliffs and was like a maze scrambling up, over, around, and under jumbled boulders. Fun but tiring... Eventually I returned to the Ocean Path and made my way - tired but immensely satisfied - back to the car . #natureadventurediscovery
