For the first time, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Greece, Sophocles Venizelos, gives a speech on behalf of his country at a meeting of the Alliance held in Lisbon, Portugal. This was the first time that the two new members - Greece and Turkey - were attending a meeting of the North Atlantic Council.
The meeting was held in the Palácio da Assembléia Nacional de São Bento, the Portuguese Parliament in Lisbon on 20 February 1952, two days after the official accession of Greece to NATO.
