For years I wondered how the Maroons got these British type names. This is an interesting reveal at 3:42. Nomenclature cannot be taken lightly and in this we see where the pen is mightier than the sword. Did the church achieve what the British Army could not attain?

Enslaved people had English names from the plantation. Most enslaved people were born in Jamaica.

I got no respect for maroons otherwise known as the Ashanti people of West Africa in Ghana 🇬🇭. They never fought for freedom of all Africans in Jamaican only for their group of people

Be careful what you repeat because that’s a common rumour that continues to divide us but where is the proof. We were showing proof before we make these statements or they win. But if it is true we must do better today. I’m sure we can learn a lot from the maroons of today despite the past.

Conversations With Ma'at it’s not a rumor it got legal binding documents between British imperials and the maroons. How did you think they became free people while the rest of our ancestors were still stuck on the plantation

Maroons consisted of people of multiple ethnic backgrounds it's just that the Ashanti were more dominant.

I understand your perspective but it's very easy to make these judgements from our times. They were trying to survive and not be reenslaved.
