Probably the most unusual track to get acquainted to Ace Combat OST lol :D

This is actually a boss theme against two erratic opponents, so the fusion fits due to the enemies displaying their chaotic behavior. The music in Ace Combat 7 in cases like this is tailored to represent the character. For an opposite example, check the tracks titled "Sol Squadron" and "Archange." In that order. The first acts as a sort of introduction, while the second is the boss fight proper in a later chapter.

Another note to make is this song is called mimic because the two mimic each other perfectly. Down one and the song instantly changes. Note the best version of this track is called open fire

Ah, good ol' Ace combat OSTs, they never disappoint. I recommend you to listen the individual "Mimic: Rage" and "Mimic: Scream" versions next (I'd recommend "Mimic: Rage" first). All i can tell you is that drummer really had a blast making all 3 versions of the song.

All Ace Combat music regardless of its genre (which can shift about between games), I feel, is defined by _The Buildup_ . It seems like all of their composers absolutely love to spend two minutes "explaining" the song to you before blasting you apart with it in some form or another. This song specifically is used to represent a set of mind-broken psychotic twins belonging to Mimic Squadron with the callsigns Rage and Scream whom are hellbent on tearing you apart. The two "halves" of the song are each their own, and when you take one of them out this song will shift into either "Mimic - Rage" or "Mimic - Scream" depending on who's gone. One simplifies the percussion while the guitars go completely ham and the other is the opposite. If you do more Project Wingman or Ace Combat (my top modern recommendation probably being Magic Spear I), I'll be back. Or one of the headliner songs off of Hoshimachi Suisei's first album, but that's more...out there. 😏

You can somewhat guess that this is a "boss" theme, and the enemies we're fighting is a tad bit insane, I'm sure someone would explain it (I'm not gonna) 5:27 you should check out Archange or Alicorn next then :)

Shame you can't really hear it that well during gameplay. All the radio chatter and missile alerts tend to make listening hard, especially since you have to also focus on flying.

You should also do Anchorhead Raid, which is also from Ace combat 7! Great video, God bless!

2:23 This feels like a callback to the original Ace Combat and Ace Combat 2 soundtracks. (Which were also quite heavy with the Jazz/Fusion.)

This song has two other versions. In this battle, you're fighting two psychic siblings named Rage and Scream. The music will change to reflect which sibling is alive. If Rage lives, the guitar gets angry, if Scream lives, the drums go even more nuts, not even staying on beat anymore. Gotta say, it feels like something is missing when I hear the song without their unhinged screaming.

Most songs for Ace Combat is build-up, because it's music for a battle, the longer it goes, the more you tend to be winning the battle, and in turn, the war, so it makes sense that the songs would have a long build-up time and then the ending just, being blissful as you finally have hit the point where victory is ensured Or, rather, that's what I feel like they are, I love the songs, they're perfect as an OST

Seconding the suggestions elsewhere re: the other versions of the track. Spoiling as little as possible, this plays at the start of a boss fight against two opponents, then shifts to one of the other two versions; which one is played depending on who you shoot down first. And, uh. Both are absolutely unhinged, in different directions, giving character insight to the boss that's still flying. Rage's in particular is a bit of a "Keiki Kobayashi gave the drummer a room and a mic and told him, 'jam as hard as you want, we'll put it in'" moment.

I like how people get impressed by the drums but they don't even know how insane the Rage version is compared to it
