Farewell Acker Bilk, your music will live on long after much of the rubbish called 'music' has been forgotten about. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.

Time will roll on but Acker Bilk and his clarinet will forever reside, not as strangers, but as our perennial inspiration and influence on the 'fore shore' of our hearts and souls. His 'Stranger On The Shore' blows my mind every time I hear it. Acker makes the clarinet sound like a saxello soprano saxophone in the first octave - that full, deep, round, mellow sound. Actually, he is the first Pop/R 'n' B...clarinetist to have captured and sustained my attention, interest, and resolve to play the clarinet when no access to a soprano saxophone was forthcoming. Peter Fountain got.my attention too, but not to the extent that Acker Bilk did. AB, you have involuntarily and physically departed, but you will always remain in our hearts and in the heart of God. RIP! Your Life's Mission has been very well accomplished. Adorable postage!

When I was a kid my grandma had a restaurant in a poor old coal mineing town in Indiana. Kids from the long gone high school would come in for lunch and dance to Stranger on the Shore. From the nickel jukebox.
