Garden Island is about 5km off the Western Australian coast, just south of Fremantle. There is a causeway to the island, but this is restricted to military personnel only. Most of the island is a naval base. It is mostly just the northern tip of the island that is accessible to the public, but only by private boat and only during daylight hours.
The northern end of the island has two picnic areas, one on the east side at Pig Trough Bay, and one on the west side at Herring Bay. There is a long-drop toilet at Pig Trough Bay picnic area.
There is a track that circles around the northern area of Garden Island, with a few side paths leading to beaches.
Garden Island is home to deadly tiger snakes, so stick to the tracks.
