Love the painting, the process and the quiet. Happy that you decided not to add music. Very beautiful.

I didn’t think that acrylic and oils would mix ? I thought that you could only put oils over acrylic, interesting, and a beautiful piece of work , Thank you for sharing

Yea that's a tricky situation. I always say it just takes time to develop eyes for what looks good and what looks unsettled in a piece (whether colors are off, composition, contrasts etc). So when everything looks settled and flows well in my eyes, that's when I stop. It's obviously very subjective.

Hey, do you use anything to prime the canvas for oil pastels? I've found a lot of conflicting info about using oils on canvas and the results you got from using them here seem great so it'd be handy to know how you did it. thanks!
@AddiArts

Hey Jarrod, nope I didn't use anything special to prime the canvas for oil pastels. Usually If I want them to not be able to smear when I done, I'll spray/paint a fixative over them when I'm finished and that locks them in. A good idea is to just experiment a bunch and come up with methods that way!

What clear fixative spray/paint do you use to seal the oil pastels in so it doesn’t smear? Can you recommend a specific brand? Do you like Spray or paint? Does it leave a sheen? Thank you!!!

What is the fine tip like colored pencil that’s black you’re using? A Charcoal fine top pencil?

Just a regular graphite pencil! The real deep black marks are made from a soft pastel

If I don't put a fixative on the oil pastels before painting over them, the paint will peal off yes.

Can you tell us which oil pastels you use, please? Also, are they soft pastels? Water soluble?
@AddiArts

I was using an off-brand oil pastel (don't remember the brand). not soft pastel, not water soluble, just standard oil pastels :)

aren't there issues with this painting's archival quality if you put acrylic paint over the oil pastels?
@AddiArts
5 жыл бұрын
yep most likely! But I'm not concerned with that, still developing skills and techniques and what I enjoy painting, no need for me to worry about archival quality pieces just yet :-)
@handznet

@@AddiArts well. But developing technique involving approach that has no future is not ideal. I also wanted to use acrylics and oil pastels on my paintings but after reading about how they never cure - it made me to not even start as it would be wrong turn. Its sadly really hard to get archival properties when working with oil pastels etc

Addi Arts I was wondering the exact same thing as the only pastels I really SAW were those rectangular soft ones. May I ask what brands you are using for both your soft and oil pastels? And also, which protective spray you use as the only one I know of for oil pastels is the Sennelier. Thanks so much and I’m so happy to have found your account tonight ☺️
