I own a copy of _ActRaiser_ 1, and the most memorable parts to me were the discovery of wheat and the first time I connected two of the cities with a road. Something about the game makes those feel like great accomplishments.

The sountrack. I love this game to bits. The remake is ehh.... not bad, but has less charm. I still am glad that I owned Actraiser on the SNES. Actraiser 2 otoh... Looked good but it was unfun. No simulation mode and bloody over the top difficulty.

My brother and i switched on Actraiser. He would play the side scrolling portion and I would do the simulator portion. It was great fun for us both.

One of my favorites on the SNES that I had as a kid. I got it at a video rental shop. I kept renting the shit out of it so eventually, the owner just let me buy it for 20 bucks. Love this game.

Actraiser is a gaming masterpiece. Actraiser 2, on the other hand, is a gorgeous piece of art that forgot itself. That being said, 2 years ago, I approached it with a very 1990s mindset and sat my ass down on the carpet and gave it the same treatment that I gave Super Ghouls and Ghosts. 8 hours a day, taking breaks, memorizing every single pattern and enemy placement. Happy to say that I finally beat it on normal, but it absolutely came at great cost lol. Not an easy game! Best advice I can give? Master the double jump/float and you must absolutely master 2 or 3 of the spells. If you aren’t willing to appreciate the decade the game was made, do not even try.

Back then I never did play the first one, but Actraiser 2 was my go-to rental during many summer weekends. What a great game, even though i never finished it. I remember a magazine had one of those photo collage maps of a tower in the game and I was so stoked when I finally reached that level. But that one broke me, don't remember ever beating it, lol.

Act Raiser 2 was the Dark Souls of the early 90’s? That’s how I remember it anyway. Punishingly hard game and being able to beat it on normal was a legit badge of honor for me as a teenage gamer.

Loved this game as a kid. The music and story of the townspeople moved me to tears. It was so unique and although very challenging, I beat several times over.

As a kid I wasn't very good at platforming games and didn't have much patience for them either. But I *loved* the simulation parts of this game, so I remember getting my brother to beat most of the platform parts while I built up the cities. I think it was the first simulation game I played, and started my lifelong love of simulation games.

The excellence of Actraiser 2's graphics cannot be overstated. Absolute masterpiece. Still more beautiful than 95% of games released TODAY! The music is also exquisite. Way too hard though.

I thought that the first half of this video seemed oddly familiar. You double dippin' cheeky guy you, ha. Jokes aside, I'm glad that you expanded on your previous video. The added transition in between is pretty awesome as well. I have yet to play this title. However, after watching your videos on it I plan on checking it out here soon. As always, great analysis man. Keep up the good work

I got Actraiser 2 first, and I’ve played it many times since. It’s hard to get used to, but a really incredible presentation. The first game is perfect as far as I’m concerned. Just fun front to back.

I played this as a kid. Your video made me recall so many things. I was always frustrated that I couldn’t level up enough to get the last health bar to have the same health as the bosses.

This is one of my favorite SNES games! I vividly remember the music to the opening title as well. It's pretty iconic, but for me, I was more blown away by the music for Filmore act 1. The first stage of the game sounding like that just got me excited for the rest of the action stages! To this day I don't think any level 1/first stage track has ever beat that one and that's saying a lot considering how long it's been. My favorite moment was getting to the first simulation area in Filmore. That REALLY surprised me. I had rented the game based on the front of the box at the time so I had no manual an no indication of what I'll be in for so it was one of those things I picked on a whim. When I discovered that the game blended two of my favorite different types of games into one, I knew I was playing something truly unique and awesome.

The music of the first game and that cover art. Inspired so many graphic novel creations in my childhood. Psssst... The carts shown on ebay are chinese repros. Better to spend the money on a real cart IMO.

I was going to say the same thing. The original cart is closer to 50 dollars these days and you can tell them apart because it’s a first model cart, a bit “fatter”.

Something you forgot to mention about the remake Actraiser Renaissance is the addition of a tower defence mode mixed with the city building mode. It completely changes the pace of the city mode because it dictates when you're allowed to seal monster lairs or not, not counting all the story cutscenes that have been added which constantly interrupt your game. Just a bit of warning for the fans who might consider getting the remake instead of tracking down the original game.

I remember enjoying Actraiser but it always got me hung up on the simulation aspects. While as an adult I appreciate what they did, I didn't enjoy them. Wasn't a fan of SimCity, so I guess that makes sense. I LOVED ActRaiser 2, in the same way I loved Chakan and WeaponLord. Ultimately, enjoyed them but too hard for my enjoyment. I'd rent them, enjoy the whooping I received, annndd then went back to playing Chrono Trigger, Demon's Crest, and Final Fantasy III. :D

Sad they don't make games like they used to anymore where you can just pick it up and start playing and come back later and can beat the came in a few hours instead of spending hundreds of hours. Actraiser 1 was awesome back in the 90s and have great replay value today. Tried Actraiser 2 for a bit and didn't like it much due to the stiff controls and no building feature.

I believe I saw someone beat Actraiser 2 hard difficulty at a games done quick a few years ago. Edit: yup I did back in 2019. This was before gdq went completely off the rails and started having completely obscure games no one has heard of that has maybe 3 runners and the runner showcasing it misses 75% of the tricks but gets a spotlight over runners and games people would like to see because they check the right boxes. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0WiEuJuFpIWGqpg

I loved the all the quintet games I played back in the day. I just wish I could have bought the games back then as opposed to renting them. Actraiser 2 was one of the best action platformers on the SNES, to bad it still ended up being a bit of a letdown due to dropping the angel segments..
