I tried to find a nice balance of presenting the dice rolls and information of the system, and just letting folks enjoy these awesome players in a fun, albeit rushed, one-shot actual play in my fantasy horror setting. Let me know what you think! Too much text at times, or was it fine with a little pausing? I want to do this next with Powered by the Apocalypse, which should be a LOT easier (and faster to edit), and the Cypher System!

Gotta say the pacing was very well to give a general idea of what was going on with the rules. The system definitely benefits from the dynamics a VTT brings. Now dude, that setting!! Please tell me you have something published! I think it would also work very well in the Cypher System.

So, I made this comment a good number of months back on your How to play Cortex Prime video... "Sorry... this seems WAAAAAYYY too complicated and convoluted. It almost feels like this game gets in its own way. For me,, Savage Worlds for the win" And now, after watching this video (and your How to play video 3 or 4 more times), I would like to retract that comment. I have now taken the first steps towards a better appreciation of Cortex Prime, and, I have ordered the book. Granted, the system does have a massive amount of potential moving parts... but, as you have so consistently and fairly pointed out... YOU get to chose the number of moving parts. I don't have to move the entire "mountain" of information in hopes of finding the game I want to play with Cortex Prime, I only have to take a few pieces of that mountain to make my own modular system that IS the game I want to play. Keep up the good work!

That is so awesome to hear! Cortex really is hard to initially get into. Heck, it took me multiple reads of the book to finally get it. Honestly, if I hadn't gone into it determined to make a video about it, I don't know if I would have stuck with it. But like you, once it clicked, I saw the potential, specifically in the Mods that I liked. There are probably 20 mods I will never use, because of how I like to play, but the ones I like work so well for certain games I run. All that to say, I'm glad to hear you've found the mods to make the game you want! I would love to hear how it goes!

Fun playthrough. I feel like I have more questions about how effect die work more than anything. Once I took into consideration that Cortex Prime encourages out customize your game with Mods and Traits, I became more interested. Not only that, setting the difficulty rather than rolling, as a GM, is a huge pro in solo gaming. I will say that I don't like the way that the initiative works, but there's a mod for that! I recently downloaded a copy of After The Bomb, The Ninja Turtles and Other Strangeness RPG, but without the Turtles. I made a character there and plugged in the Cortex Prime ruleset. So far, I've just fought off 3 or 4 D6 worth of Foot Clam Members, but it's a fun introduction to the game.

Your character file looks great! Did you make it fully yourself or is the base from cortex prime where you just add your own traits ? (Just bought own copy and now studying it) thanks for the great video(s)

This came from experimenting with some of the base suggestions from Cortex Prime, then messing around a bit with some of their mods. I am a big fan of the Stress Mod, and when I found out you could apply Stress to Traits, it really clicked with me.

Hey I am tempted to start to learn and run this system so this is GREAT! Curious though, where did you make your character sheets? It looks like an app of some sort!
@TheDungeonNewbsGuide
2 жыл бұрын
So, I designed that particular one using the Role vtt ( app.playrole.com ) and if you make a free account on Role, you can actually use this link to download that template and adjust it for your own games: app.playrole.com/sheet-templates/621da3e2-the-other/save Otherwise, I'm actually in the process of looking into other vtts that are good for making Cortex character sheets, since they need to be so customizable due to how modular the system is. Foundry VTT has a decent user-made one that is worth checking out if you have it, but I wouldn't purchase it just for that reason.

For the sheet, the rolling, video chat and all, I used app.playrole.com. Totally free, and mostly I just really love the quality of the video chat and the customizable sheets. What was website you used to roll the dice, or was that a custom thing.
@TheDungeonNewbsGuide
Жыл бұрын
So, we did use a site to build the custom sheets and roll the dice, called Role (app.playrole.com I believe) which is free and does video. Big fan of it, use it all the time! However, the larger dice graphics that you mainly see through the video are custom ones that I put up to help folks follow along better. The actual dice results on Role are pretty small on screen. I will say, if you have Foundry, it has a great mod for Cortex Prime with really clear dice rolls. It's a little trick to figure out at first, but I've started defaulting to it for my Cortex games solely because of how well it displays dice rolls.

So, if you take away a number of the graphics I added in post (using premiere at the time), the vtt is Role (app.playrole.com). Great vtt if you want good video chat with customizable character sheets. Though I only like their character sheets for simpler games. They get to be a little messy with more complicated sheets.
