Hello, I used to be a Honda ONLY guy for everything except engine. I bought my 2011 MDX used with 129000km and it was dealer serviced its whole life. Just these past few weeks I researched through Acura MDX forums and came across some interesting articles regarding non Honda oils. Bottom line I went with Mobil1 Extended performance , I did a 3x3 transmission fluid change using DW-1 (be sure to measure each time, manual says 3.1L but my first drain was 3.5L, non were ever 3.1L) changed the Transmission in-line filter (would make a nice vid) and replaced the transmission pressure switches and the shift solenoid pressure switches (also another good video to make) and did a 3x3 again using Redline D6. The car shifts like a dream! I used Amsoil severe gear 80w-90 full synthetic in the transfer case and Acura oil in the rear diff. I will be changing the brake fluid this week to ATE typ 200, because when I bought the car I had them replace brake fluid flush and less than a year later it’s cooked. The Honda heavy duty DOT 3 they recommend can’t handle stopping a 4000 lb vehicle light to light stop sign to stop sign. Read your brake filler cap, it will tell you use DOT 3 or 4, the DOT 4 will stand up to the heat better especially if you tow. Don’t believe you are stuck only using Honda fluids. I paid a Hefty price for these high end fluids and filters and pressure switches, but in the long run these are preventative maintenance we can all DIY with a little help with videos like yours, I learned a lot from you and I would like to share this with you. www.brisdance.com/Honda/Redline.html Very informative, and if it’s not too late you can save your transmissions by educating and researching. Keep up the great videos.

Thanks for your insight! Unfortunately there isn't an external trans filter on pre-restyle (under 2010) second gen vehicles, so I can't change it. The trans pressure and shift solenoid switches are definitely on my list. Never had an issue with the original DOT3 fluid, but I don't drive it that hard and I don't tow. I will be flushing my brake fluid some time next year, though.

I’ve watched so many videos and heard so many stories about the Redline ATF extending the life of your trans considerably, what do you think? Is it worth switch over or is it risk without reason.

I don't see a reason to use anything other than OEM ATF DW-1. From all the Acura/Honda mechanics this is almost a universal agreement that only OEM fluid should be used.

Hey. No, nothing changed and nothing will, this model has been discontinued for a decade now. You can confidently use this guide for fluid changes. Just make sure to get original fluids from a reliable source. I have videos on all these fluid changes on my channel BTW.

@@AcuraAddicted TY so much Boss !!! Yes I seen the videos glad you made these great videos I feel a lot better now that you got back to me . I have another question but I’m not a mechanic far from , the speedometer the one on the left when I go past 40, 50 let’s say it only goes up to about 2-3 on the left is that normal or do I need to change the speed sensor or transmission sensor or is all ok

I’d say your speedometer cluster calibration might be off. Look for a calibration procedure online, I’m pretty sure you can do it yourself with no special tools. Try that out first. I’m not sure about speed sensor, I would think if it was faulty, it wouldn’t show any speed at all.

@@AcuraAddicted what do you consider a calibration option for the speedometer I don’t know what to ask the mechanic what do I look for from the mechanical part of the procedure so I know what your talking about because I am not a mech. But I love the aspect of learning through just asking questions and so far you seem to be the right teacher for this type of car

No, you cannot buy Acura or Honda PS from CT. But you can buy it from any Acura or Honda dealer. It's inexpensive.
