So this is Acustica’s take on Soothe2 . I think Soothe 2 still has the superior GUI, market share and sounds fantastic. Acustica sounds amazing as well, but a lot of their plugins have an unnecessary complex interface. You have to spend a lot of time understanding what the plugins do. The entry-level of understanding the plugins is way too high. It isn't common knowledge to know what algorithms like ‘Gold’, ‘Magenta’ or ‘Nickle’ do. Although after researching I know what they mean, it just adds to the barrier of complexity. We live in a time where efficiency and quick workflow is mandatory when mixing. And that’s where Oeksound nails it. They made tons of categorized presets, made the interface easy to understand, and still give you just as many flexibility and freedom to dive in and customize the settings. Sound-wise I do like Acustica Audio, but Dove won’t be a Soothe2 killer. I just hope they fix the things I mentioned above in their core. Not just by releasing a “Fire the” version of their plugins.

You are right but they seem to be very aware of the complicated GUI and the CPU heavy of their plugins and it is changing fast; their plugin SALT looks great and simple, is not very cpu demanding, is extremely intuitive and sounds great. SAND(SSl take) sounds great, and GOLD(NEVE) is the best I've tried in my opinion, better than UAD or Plugin Alliance takes.

Just tried Dove with Soothe2 and SA3. I won't deny that Dove's results are rather smooth and easier to dial in, but the CPU usage was rather high. On an M1, with 16gb of RAM, using SO 6.6, both Soothe and SA3 had 1 for CPU usage. Dove had 7 and double the latency. I always get so excited about AA plugins but end up not purchasing because of this alone. I really hope that one day, this would no longer be an issue or that computers would get better.

Hey there! Studio One 6.6 user here too! There's a software called audiogridder that you can use to lower CPU usage when using Dove! Acustica also has a separate lp plugin that makes processing much easier as well if your computer doesn't have much CPU space.

I've only recently jumped on the AA bandwagon - Wine was my gateway drug.... but hell is it CPU intensive. Easy to get it to peg at 60% of CPU...... as the only plugin running on a maximum spec M3 Pro chip. Crazy...but it is very good. Need a TON of compute to run more than a handful of their CPU intensive units.

Only recently jumped on the AA bandwagon, they have some amazing and very nice looking plugins. But heck they are CPU hogs. (Not breaking news upon further research). For first time in 20 years I'm contemplating if it is worth buying a PC to mix... There things are so CPU intensive. Hard to imagine using a lot of AA plugs on across multiple channels. My mixes usually have 50 to 100 channels easy and never had CPU issues with other brands!.

@@mixbustv That's cool. But how many tracks and plugs. It would be cool to get some benchmark stats on that. Is that a multi die unit or just one (multi core) CPU?.. I'm wondering if this is an Apple Mx vs Intel thing here as running 5x multi channel mixes x however many plugs per channel you're running is great anecdotal, but the benchmarks for an M3Max and 14900KS are not 50x faster. 🙂

Acustica plugins are unnecessarily large in size, have weirdly blurry interfaces, not to mention the super high CPU load which just ELIMINATES them from the competition.....forget about buying them, I wouldn't even use a free pirated version of Acustica plugins IF THEY PAID ME TO 😂they literally check all the boxes of "how not to VST". I can run countless instances of Fabfilter saturn 2 but a single Acustica saturator hogs up the CPU LOL but why? because their "proprietary technology" is just so good? 😂No it isn't, and in fact I think that their technology is stupid and it sucks. Definitely not worth the high CPU load, OR the file size, OR the cheap looking blurry interface, let alone the price point.
