In a previous video, I focused on the differences between a Clarifying and Chelating ingredients. We focused on what kind of buildup is removed by each. I also stressed on the fact that ACV is not a clarifying ingredient and the misinformation surrounded the concept.
If you have not watched that video, please feel free to check it out:
• FINAL WASH, CLARIFYING...
In this video I show you how to use Apple Cider Vinegar on Curly/Wavy Hair for the purposes of removing product buildup, pool water chemicals and hard water minerals.
ACV as an ingredient can be used every 4 to 6 weeks but not more than that, unless you're suffering from dandruff in the winter months and need to tackle the issue asap.
ACV has multiple benefits, it balances pH, it helps with dandruff, it removes buildup from the scalp, it helps unclog the pores on the scalp, thereby reducing hair fall (clogged scalp = hair fall)
In you have acute dandruff (not to be mistaken with a flaky scalp) consider using ACV with the spray bottle method as a pre-poo before you start your wash routine. Leave it on for 30 mins maximum and then go in with your regular shampoo.
If you're considering using ACV as a chelating ingredient to remove buildup from regular product use (ie leave in condition, hair creams, mousses & gels) you can go in with ACV in a shampoo form or the DIY form in-shower, post your regular shampoo and conditioning steps.
It might been counter-intuitive to condition your hair before stripping it clean right? Why add product, when the aim of chelating is to remove product buildup... no???? I did struggle with the logic behind it myself. Let us remember that we aren't here to reinvent the wheel. We're here to learn and grow together. If you stumble upon valid literature stating otherwise, you how where to find me.
For now lets say that, upon reviewing the existing literature out there, I was unable to find a decent article that did not recommend this step. Let us assume that the best reason for this could potentially be, freshly detangled hair.
Now lets talk about ACV. This magical ingredient really packs a punch with its medical properties. You can absolutely add this ingredient to your routine if you have straight hair. In this video, however, we're focusing on how to use it, if you are following the curly girl method in India and are looking for a DIY or a store bought solution.
