100% agree with you. The hardest part of any job is the training. I have worked for multi billion dollars companies, and I have worked for a one man band. Training is always the issue. Everyone always expect you to walk off the street knowing exactly what they do.. and this is a very good way to get ahead of anyone looking to turn a wrench. Anyone can turn a wrench, but knowing and having experience with like-minded people to take you under a wing and show you the ins and outs will show you how to be effective and efficient. That is what makes you wanted.

Faye , what you said resonates with me . I’m a fellow Libra and also a construction superintendent. I’ve been working with my hands since high school. And I’ve always appreciated being able to look back at the end of the day and see what I’ve done . It’s a satisfying feeling. I’ve also always been a gear head , more of a hobby than a career but still . Anyway , love what you do , keep up the good work !

That's awesome of Napa and wd40. I've been wrenching since I was 15 helping my dad (31 now, eewww) and I'd say I'm pretty good at what I do. I originally started because I wanted to build my own cars from the ground up and well I haven't been active in doing so until just recently with my 2dr tahoe that I completely blew up both engine and transmission 😅

A huge need, but most people cant afford $100+/hr for repairs. When a simple water pump swap is $1100 dollars and the part is supplied, its almost better to just buy a different vehicle. It might be a bit more price wise but you wont have to spend a couple grand in repairs.

We need more good techs in the industry but I don’t think they’re marketing to the all of the right people either. Wrenches will always need to be turned but the industry is sorely lacking in bright young minds. Cars have gotten complex enough that there is basically a whole new segment in the field. There are big dollars to be made diagnosing modern vehicles. I constantly get vehicles that seem like they’ve been run off by every shop in town because they can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. Seems like a basic wiring problem is a tall task for a lot shops these days much less a bad module or a network issue. If you can diagnose electrical issues, bad modules, clone used modules, do eeprom work, etc. then you can carve out a nice career in this field and make good money doing it but it takes staying up to date and keeping a sharp mind.

I love working on vehicles. But flat rate killed the industry. Manufacturers making up BS hours for jobs that will take twice as long and doesn't count for hours that could be added for older vehicles that might require extra time. Like rusted parts or newer cars the require the dash to come apart to replace a A/C temp sensor and only pays 1.5hrs. It's the main reason I went back to the military and aviation.
