What a hip, badass white boy. His playing is just so perfect. I watch his performance at the Modern Drummer Festival again and again. His breakbeats are so innovative. So inspiring, even to older jazz and funk players.

Great Video and info about Tam Starclassic Bubinga and Starphonic. This video is a deciding factor for me to get the Bubinga instead of the Bubinga/Birch.

I really like the older Starclassic badge that's just painted on. It's like a nice little stamp on the drums instead of the usual metal plate or whatever screwed into the drums. But now it looks like it's changed to a little metal "Starclassic" attached to the shells (except for the Starclassic Bubinga Elites). Obviously it doesn't really matter, but I always liked the painted badge. ........I'll get over it.

Actually, the pitch black hats (especially the soudwaves) are pretty decent compared to the other pitch blacks, crashes, rides etc.

It looks like he has some stock tama heads on there. I believe they are made by evans, so probably a G1 batter and Hazy 200 on the snare side.

I was just going to say something about his PitchBlack hats, scrolled down and saw by the top comment, that I wasn't the first person to notice that. Although I absolutely hate those hats, I respect him for using them instead of going for some high-class cymbals just to keep up some sort of image.

What is the finish on the "Jazz" kit. Natural Cordia?
@blackwash
13 жыл бұрын
Yeah I'm wondering the same thing as kakorik0: Starclassic Bubinga or Bubinga Elite? I think the "funk" kit is regular and the "jazz" kit is Elite, just based on the finishes. Looks like the funk kit's "Silver Snow Racing Stripe" and the jazz is "Natural Cordia".
@RockMacDonald23

how much would a jazz kit like that go for?
@ShittyMcPoopyBalls
13 жыл бұрын
@blackwash your right, silver snow racing stripe is regular bubinga, natural cordia is elite. elite is just a better finish range and they are made in japan instead of china so they cost around 25 percent more.

How did you mic the kit? Starting with the room. Is it a "live Room" or dead? are you mic ing the toms or just the kick and snare. Lets see a sm57 and a beta kick. Right

Nothing was intended at all, but he is indeed a white man. Most funk drummers in the past have been African-American, funky rhythms started in New Orleans and were perfected by mostly black drummers with James Brown, but of course there is Dave Garibaldi, Stanton Moore, a couple of others.
