So is Adam Grant an organizational behavior psychologist? Does this fall within Industrial Organizational psychology? Anyway, I do agree that there should be a test before anyone applies for a job in politics/government. I think it's important to have a certain _standard_ skill level before even attempting to go into the field of politics/government. I have to say that the things that Adam Grant says here makes a lot of sense and I agree with it. The issues many people have is that they seek happiness, but that happiness is very fleeting and not really permanent. I feel like the ultimate goal for everyone should be to find meaning & purpose in your life. Once you do find that, then the next important thing is to find ways you can share your meaning & purpose in life to better others and to contribute to society in some way. The problem I find is that people often get too obsessed with things that ultimately have little meaning in your life and also others around you. For example, finding and getting a job/career is important, but if you do find one that only fulfills your initial goals of survival (i.e. make money) you haven't found your purpose/meaning in life. You might enjoy said job/career and find temporary happiness from the money you earn and by de facto able buy things & pay your monthly expenses. But does this fulfill your need to find purpose? Does it contribute to society? Does it better the well being of the people in your life directly? Of course some of us out there don't have a job so that aspect is something that most likely pokes at our feelings of self worth and also constantly reminds us that without a steady source of income you can't even begin to find meaning & purpose in your life.

I just love this guy. I found him a year and half ago with 'Worklife' podcast and since then just enjoying his wisdom. His thinking is backed up by studies and still he has this philosophical undercurrent in the way he talks. Oh and the passion about his subject.. it just shows up in his smile.
