This is an older one, he's only gotten better and better! Adam has actually learned to play several instruments, including drums so that the sounds are true and used the right way in their songs. ❤

You said he was visualing a drum kit in his head. From what I've read, Adam taught himself to play drums (after he started beatboxing) because he wanted to be sure the sounds & gestures he was making were accurate. He has a degree in music although his instrument is the trumpet. When he & his brother Chris started the group back around 2000, he decided to learn beatboxing because he thought the group needed a beatboxer.

You'll never watch a Home Free video the same way again. You'll be more aware of how valuable he is to the group. He just knows what the best sound effects are that he needs to make so each song is perfect. The guys jokingly refer to him as "A freak of nature" :)

I think my all-time favorite of his has to be the flyover at the end of God Bless the USA with Lee Greenwood and The Singing Sergeants. Adam keeps adding to his sound effects list to keep us on our toes.

You will never listen to Home Free the same way again. Now that you understand Adam "The Freak of Nature" Rupp (the man who eats instruments) , you should watch Friends in Low Places or Your Man live, to understand Tim (the bass) better. And of course, the Butts Medley is always a go-to for a good laugh. Once again, wait a little bit before watching Mayday. You need go down the Home Free rabbit hole more to fully get Mayday the way you need to

I was at this concert live and was a skeptic. I have watched this many times and am still amazed at his abilities. I am even more amazed at how he uses this talent when they do songs.

As a drummer myself, I'm completely in awe of what this man can do, and I think you were spot on when you said that he's probably visualizing a drum kit in his head when he's "playing" the drums. As others have said, he's only gotten better; he does an insane harmonica on "Man of Constant Sorrow" and "Folsom Prison Blues," and incredible castanets on "Sea Shanty Medley." He is THE MAN!!

I think one of the best parts of Rupp's performances when he's with Home Free is not just the sounds he can make but it's always the right amount. Not intrusive and drowning out the other vocalists but always supporting them in such a way you forget almost what a freak he is.

He learned jazz drumming in order to be more authentic. If you want an example of his (invisible) harmonica, watch "Workin' for a Living" (if you haven't already). He and his brother Chris Rupp (in the black cowboy hat) founded the group. Chris Rupp later left the group and Adam Chance (bass/baritone) joined.

If you want to hear all the members of Home Free singing, I'd recommend "Helplessly Hoping" or "Mayday". As for another great bass singer, I would say Geoff Castellucci's "Sixteen Tons".

As you're enjoying the Acapella journey with Home Free, I'd also suggest also giving Voiceplay a try (they've worked with Home Free as a whole and just members several times) Maybe check Hillbillies vs Zombies (Survivor), or, since you enjoy deep voices...try their cover of Oogie Boogie Song!

Kevin Olusola (PTX) Down - Marian Hill KOver , Scott Hoying (PTX) I Should Tell Ya Momma On You (Red Cover), and Tim Foust (Home Free) does a cover of Misty Mountains with Peter Hollens that is all done with voice, and you will LOVE the low note at the end ;)

If you like beatbox, you have to check out D-Low. Any video of his is wild, but the sbx kick back battle 2021 is a tournament he won earlier this year, absolute fire.

He's good, but I'd still pick Kevin Olusola in a "vocal drum off". Kevin's drums sound so real that you literally cannot tell his vocal beats from the real thing. But as the Percussion Section in their groups they both have to be at the top of their game.
