This man that we had watched in previous interviews, who seemed so broken that he actively dissociated while being interviewed, to the man we saw here, this was incredible to watch. Adam and his father are heroes. When Adam says the courts tried to silence him, he means that there is an active gag order and he could be charged with contempt for this press conference. My understanding - needs confirmation - is that a judge used part of the old divorce filing to take that interview down by saying that he couldn't say anything that might put his ex in a bad light that his kids might find out about. He pointed out that his kids are teens and they already know everything that happened anyway, so it was just a ridiculous ruling just to silence him, and even his ex doesn't really care if he talks now. (This is all heresy, just bits of what I remembered from a later interview he gave.)

I feel so bad for Adam. The Church and Jodi ruined his life for 15 years. Jodi has a lot to answer for, but so does the Church. In my opinion, this is one of the reasons the church is shrinking in Utah. They could change the shrinkage if they would quit hiding this type of behavior.

I have experienced a marriage to a very connected both in the highest leadership of the church and in the judicial system in Utah. My former ex was a branch president which is like a Bishop but with a smaller congregation. He had multiple affairs. When he was caught, he kicked myself and the children (6) out of the family home. He moved one of his mistresses in the home. He was excommunicated and the stress of shaming his family caused him to move back to Utah. My ex father in law was very good friends with the first Presidency. My ex never paid child support but was rebaptized within a year and half. My ex remarried and for the next 20 years my ex held callings. Example: counselor to the Bishop, Elder's president and high counselor. My Bishops would challenge my ex's worthiness but was told that the challenging Bishop must call the first Presidency. After the call my Bishop told me I was sour grapes and my attitude needed to be changed. End of subject if I was to remain in good standing. Also when the divorce took place my father in law had gone to school (since grade school) with the current Supervisory Judge over all the Judges in Utah. My attorney said my divorce was his 300 in his career (it was in Utah). He told me it probably would take about 15 minutes since I had lost my home, all furniture, and no $$ assets. Prior to the trial, the ex father in law spent $30000 to do extensive psychology evaluation so they could justify taking my six children. Fortunately I was evaluated by an exmormon and I passed and the results were closed because the ex family came off so crazy. My attorney was absolutely shocked when the judge put me on the stand for 3 hours and was trying to find some dirt to award the children to the ex. Finally I said to the judge why am I on trial when I haven't committed adultery and I haven't had a car in over a year but I have had to go to work, take 2 children to pre school, 2 to elementary school 1 to middle school and 1 to high school. That shut the court down and the judge had the previous statement stricken from the record. My ex never paid child support and 20 years later on my ex brother in law's death bed he told me my ex father in law had struck a devious deal with one of the counselors in the first Presidency (involved expensive) property to get my ex re baptized. I purposely have left names out because I and my children have been threatened with our lives. The trauma has been so great. Yes, everything Adam has claimed is very believable. Two of my children have experienced CSA.

Adam sounds injured, angry, etc. Jody was deemed a "professional" and they probably believed her. Uyah and the church has a different cultural than the rest of the world, so plays in. The church cannot be responsible for members who are not employed by them. Many of the people he mentioned are lay clergy, likely have no expertise in dealing w professional services for the body of the church. Their scope of eceleciastical practice should have been maintained. Was Jody employed by them? If they paid for his counseling with her it would have been bc she had a contract for counseling services. Church members represent all of society; there are no perfect people there. Many of the types of people we see in other organizations we will see in any church, work place or school. I don't know Adam's case specifically, but It looks like there was alot of harm done. I would certainly look back to the licensing board and other players and revisit that and seek reparations as appropriate. I grew up Mormon. They followed this pattern across the board. They make you go in for confession regularly, one on one, behind closed doors with an older man (a bishop) from age 11 on. Kids are trained to go in and confess in order to be found 'worthy' (or not) to go in the temple and do baptisms for the dead, and endowments when their 18+. Only those worthy can go, the others are shamed. One way they shame you is by the bishop, he can say whatever he wants to you, he's not trained, they do no background checks, he could be a predator. You might be verbally, spiritually, mentally, or even sexually abused. We tried to get them to stop taking kids alone behind closed doors with one man, in 2018 with Sam Young in SLC by 3000+ marching to church HQ. But they refused to change. They send you to an 'LDS/Mormon approved therapist if something bad happens. This way, they can protect themselves by telling you 'you don't want to harm the Good name of the Lord's church, do you?' It's very manipulative. They protect predators. They did mine, and many others. (Paul Adams is the most recent famous case the church protected.) Some of us were so severely emotionally abused for confessing a sin they thought was bad, that we hated ourselves, and worse, for a very long time. They use that to keep you controlled. But some of us that were sexually abused, were sent to lds Mormon therapy (like Jodi where they agreed to only teach Mormon doctrine in the therapy, and usually they inform the bishop, because they make you sign a waiver.) A psychologist was my bishop in my late teens, he was abusing several girls by hypnotizing them in his office. One girl remembered part of what happened to her, and confronted him. The church called the victims together, handled it like above, and sent him to SLC and protected him. They asked all the girls not to call police so the church (the Lord) wouldn't get a bad name. This church is a fraud. It teaches you that it's the only true church in the world and God speaks only through the top leaders and prophet. You are told obedience to them is the only way you'll be with your family in the next life. They basically have a mental gun to your head. Jodi fit right into this horrible pattern. Adam Paul Steed is a hero. I'm so glad things are finally working out for him!

I first watched Adam Steed on Mormon Stories with Dr. John Dehlin. Adam shared his story. I was so upset with what the LDS church and attorneys did with him. The Mormon church is a big multibillion-dollar church that has enough power to make You Tube bring down this episode. Also, watch Jodi's niece Jessi Hildebrandt on Mormon Stories. Dehlin always says that he is not there to bring this church down but to make it more transparent and better, he was excommunicated years ago. The church leaders are ancient men who have figured out what they can and can't do, and claim that God talks to them. Adam, God's speed, and may the good Lord be with you.

@Misdamas

It’s really not as difficult to understand. Most LDS church members are good people who have been totally groomed to keep the world out and only follow its teachings. They don’t stand on grace that the resurrection offered. They are instructed to work almost to the point of perfection and in turn many people suffer from scrupulosity, thus depression. Their hearts are in the right place, but they are warned to keep away from social media because they don’t want them to learn and research about their church’s history. Those who have are leaving “in droves.” I feel bad for them. If they leave they suffer terrible shunning by their church members and family.

Thank you for continuing to react to these cases, Isaiah! One thing many folks don’t know, including many LDS members, is that when you find a therapist through LDS Family Services you sign a document giving the church permission to disclose your PHI from sessions to local church leadership. However, you are not told that explicitly. Additionally, therapists who want to be referred to clients by the church must pass a worthiness interview. If you do not agree to uphold church doctrine in your therapy practice regardless of personal belief or the professional and ethical standards of their state, the church won’t refer members to you. So, for example, if you tell them you provide gender and sexuality affirming mental health care, they won’t refer to you, which is a huge deal knowing suicide rates among young gay LDS men are staggeringly high compared to the general population. It’s truly disturbing and why LDS membership worldwide has been steadily declining (though the church of course says otherwise without producing any actual data to back up their claim). Isaiah, you are one of the few content creators talking about these cases while continuing to highlight the role of broader systems perpetuating these abuses, which I’m so grateful for. As a survivor of the LDS church’s high-control/high-demand religious beliefs and practices, thank you for your support. 💜
