Roddy McDowall was another great guest for this show. I would've loved to see another Bookworm episode though, I actually like the concept for his villain.

For those interested and for those who couldn't care less, here's a bit of trivia about this episode; specifically the costume worn by Roddy McDowall. Back in the 80's I had the opportunity to listen to costume designer Jan Kemp talk about this particular costume. Since the character was obsessed with books, he decided to create a costume that looked like leather book bindings and he then added a reading lamp in the hat. Since he used leather, it was naturally a very hot and therefore uncomfortable costume to wear especially when under the large studio lights. To further stretch out this useless bit of trivia, he was quick to point out that although it was extremely uncomfortable to wear the costume during filming, Mr. McDowall was extremely gracious and a very good sport about the experience.

As a child, I found the Bookworm the only villain in the whole series that I actually liked. Of course, the rest of the pair of episodes was poorly written. I am still convinced that, rewritten and rethought, the Bookworm could be a wonderful Batman villain. Played by the same actor who plays Spencer Reid on CRIMINAL MINDS, and given good villainy to pull off, he could be superb.

38 seconds is only 5 seconds in Gotham City. Actually, I timed it as 40 seconds. Also in this episode, Batman called the police and “We are trapped inside a Cook Book.” That’s not something you hear everyday, it’s one of the funniest lines in the show.

I confess, I've never lived in a big city, but do clock towers chime at midnight? I mean, aren't there noise ordinance or something? Plus, aren't lightning rods supposed to ground charges? Oh, and Bookworm and his gang must be speedsters or something. They managed to move from the top of the bell tower to somewhere else to watch and listen in less than a minute. I have to ask... does Robin always have limited leg room in the Batmobile with that Bat-Magnet stowed right in front of the passenger seat? Also, did the police actually try the Bat-Magnet before using explosives on the book? It apparently worked before. It's even money as to whether they didn't think of it, or couldn't figure out the power system that Robin had to work (apparently operating it is a two-person job. Hooking it up and then having a trigger or switch to increase power from the device would be too much trouble). I can only imagine the conversation when Batman listened to the Bookworm in the Batmobile. Did they alert the police to have them block the alley? Apparently not. No, they somehow beat the Batmobile speed, got to the library, figured out where the wall was, and decided to let Bookworm blow up the wall. Maybe Bruce Wayne has the city contracts for masonry work, and decided to make a little profit on the side. I also noticed that six (count them, six) people seemed to ride in the Batmobile. They usually have a hard time making it look like three people can ride in that thing. Maybe the other three rode in the trunk. (spoiler alert: it's pretty roomy. See next season's Zodiac Crimes). I know early on the Batmobile had a security system to prevent theft. Then Penguin, Riddler, King Tut, and Bookworm all took it for a spin. Can we all pretend that after Riddler disabled it a few episode ago, repairing it got put on the back bat-burner? I'm also happy that everybody who took it buckled their safety belt. There's a big warning system, way ahead of it's time, that sounded off if the seat belt wasn't fastened. Of course, we've also seen both driver and passenger ejector seats work, so there has to be a safety interlock that releases the belt before ejection.

I'd wager that Alfred did recognize the Bookworm, but seeing as he was then posing as Bruce Wayne's butler and not as Batman's helper. As to the Morgan Bilt Library... I don't get it. Google tells me that there's a Morgan Library in New York, formerly called the J. Pierpont Morgan Library, named so after it's builder J.P. Morgan Sr. Oh wait... Bilt... built... nevermind.
