Dear Gracie, I think it was very interesting how you and your friend Rodim analyze the chords to your melody. What struck my mind is that the two of you is discussing very much the situation, which is the right way. As I am a musician of feeling, I would just do it, and find the chords by feeling, that`s how I did it all these years. But to analyze and talk about it is the real lesson, which is very positive, that is the right way. I would have just choose by ear the best chords, but there for I could be mistaken, not finding immediately the correct chords not knowing what I`m doing, just searching around, that can happen. My ear was always much faster then my brain. And the risk would be not getting the exact right chords, and getting something that somewhat sounds good, but not the real thing, not knowing why. But my way of composing was much different, I never had a fix melody just an idea, the song developed as I progressed, and get the inspiration bit by bit, as I play all these instruments each instrument I add to it brings me new ideas. But there for I would keep searching until I find something that satisfy my ears, and mostly I was right. I could trust my ears But I like your analyzing, that`s why I wanna study with you. Great lesson. But now you know why I never learn correctly the system, I had no patience to sought out the real way. I found the solution very quick, there for I never learn to analyze the system. Therefor I want to learn with you and Rodim Sivan, is a good guitar player. The two of you is a good team. Sorry that I always write so long comments, I work on it to shorten them of Thanks for the lesson. Greetings Carlos

A little late to the party but I had a few thoughts .. Writing melodies and songs based on music theory is cheating!.. you should be waiting around for a decade for inspiration to drive your creativity .. lol :) ps: I had your original melody as Am - Dm7 - G7 resolving to C .. then sliding to F - E7 - Am - G and the chorus (refrain) landing on F - E7 F - E7 Am For lyrics, my brain said: (Am) "If I wrote you a (Dm7) love song (G7) if I asked you to (C) stay (F) if your heart was (E7) receptive (Am) to the tune I would (G) play (F) I would sing a song so gentle and true (E7) (F) Tell the world the things I love about you .. (E7) If I wrote you a (Am) love song" ...

It would be cool to see a video approaching this same topic from the inverse direction. How about writing melodies to chord progressions you've come up with? I know on some levels there's some overlap, but there are definitely some differences to this approach and it would be interesting to hear you distinguish them meaningfully.

I find all your videos very helpful and this is no exception. One subject I would like to see is the theory of playing the chord melody of a song for any instrument. I see plenty of people showing the chord melody of a particular song on their particular instrument but would like to see a more universal approach.
@TheHesseJames

Easiest way to find the key signature of a song you are listening to: 1. Listen 2. Hum one note over the song you are listening to 3. Find the note on your instrument. 4. Play the major and the minor chord of this note on your (precisely tuned) instrument over the song. 5. The chord that is fitting better will give you the key signature of the song. Works over 90% of the time like a charm!

I think you should tell people upfront that they cannot get access to any of your associated materials unless they pay monthly fees by subscribing to your patreon channel.
@GracieTerzian
3 жыл бұрын
The reason why I don’t say how people can get the materials except for that it’s in a link in the description is because in the future I might want to offer these materials some other way. Maybe some day they will be free, maybe I will use another website aside from Patreon, etc. and I won’t be able to edit the video to change what I’m saying. This is why I don’t get into specifics about it. I give people 100% of the information they need to learn in the video. The materials on Patreon are just bonus worksheets and practice quizzes. I put a lot of time into writing the scripts for these videos, recording, and editing them, and then I share them for free on KZitem. The people who choose to support me on Patreon make it possible for me to make these videos free and accessible for everyone because the money I make there is a big part of how I make a living. I obviously need to give these people some sort of extra bonus material as a thank you for their support and making it all possible. As I said, ALL of the information you need to know is in the video and it’s free to access.
@m2svirtual384

@LP A - To be honest, I watched this entire video without realizing there were some sort of 'extras' available, until you mentioned it. I have seen some channels do this, and the material is more to the side of 'necessary' and so it does seem slightly as a bait. But not here - at all. This video is entirely complete - it's 26 mins long! I am actually quite curious now as to what that 'extra content' might be, because this was so informative and casual. Also, as a fyi, when you see a link in a channel to a Patreon page, some monetary exchange is likely - just saying. We all know that today. So imho, nothing was hidden, and this YT 'lesson' was complete. Ima sneak in a Thank You Gracie. First time to your channel, and this is complete breath of fresh air from the usual music tutorial channels. cheers

Although your way of defining the key sounded good, it also seemed a little bit labourious. I always check out halfsteps in the melody and there will you have the third and the fourth or the seventh and the octave, maybe even both pairs. If there's no halfsteps the melody probably is pentatonic and the key is still pretty easy to define.
