Rim lighting is the backlighting of a subject that visibly highlights its contours and separates it from its background. With rim light, you can suggest dimension and depth in an image; whether it's with portraits, wildlife or macro photography, tabletop photography and even digital art or type.
In this video workshop I provide a brief introduction to rim lighting, then walk through three step x step 'how to' Photoshop demos using three different methods to develop a faked ('faux') rim light look in post-processing (where there was no rim light before...). I also show how to, optionally, color tone rim lighting effects. Start times for each demo are noted below.
