Thanks for the video. I have seen lots of people's videos showing them adding a magnet to their SAK, but yours is the first showing where to get tiny magnet from. My daughter is now down a set of earbuds and my Swiss Champ has two magnets.

Great idea! I’ve been looking at buying a tiny magnet for my Swisschamp but they only come in packages with dozens of magnets. Never considered taking an old set of earbuds apart. Thanks!

You can keep the magnet inside the hook

My 40 year old Explorer doesn't have a package hook, or a saw - I keep a magnet in the recessed side of the can opener. The magnet was harvested from a refrigerator magnet.

My magnet was a bit too thick for the saw, but it fits well under the tip of the corkscrew. Thanks for the tip!

I also added a small flashlight to the handle and a small flange bearing to the handle for use as a bearing block when trying to make a fire with a bow drill fire making tool. And some thread wrapped around the needle and that placed so it can't fall out without my knowledge.

Thank you, I had no idea there were magnets in earbuds! We tossed so many out. 😮

Now that's a great idea. I can recall several times such a magnet would've been helpful.

Great video! Always wanted to source one of those tiny magnets and now I know where to find one! One question though, will the gripper end of the tweezers always point to North? Otherwise you only know it aligned along the N/S axis.

You only know the north south axis with that. And north is where no sun is :-) (or the North Star)

Is it a particular type of magnet? An extra strength one?

Standard small neodymium magnets, all speakers technically contain magnets.

Why go to all the trouble of destroying the headphones for the magnet when you can buy the same thing and a stronger magnet that is small and sometimes even smaller than the one you got from the earpiece. And they are usually stronger and the same size as that one. I like to keep mine on my can opener space and it allows the magnet to be able to not get lost. I also carry a sewing needle with my knife, and it is better to make a compass from. As it is lighter and can be a little more accurate but you only really need to know the cardinal points of the compass.

Without additional compas there is no way to check where is north and where is south.

I don’t make it a habit of dropping my keys in a Pilsner glass but if I did I’d flip the glass over and dump them out.
