The crypt looks perfectly planted, looks like it might be starting to put out a new leaf, too! (My suggestion to move it up was to avoid crown rot while it was getting established 😅) Nice idea with the splitter and air stones, it looks really cool and your gudgeon seems to be playing in the bubbles. I think your tank looks great 🙂👍

Ya know my nitrates were 50ppm and I'm still growing hair algae. I've stopped using liquid ferts and the nitrates came down slowly with water changes. Today is the second day in a row my nitrates are zero. I know that's not good, and i don't understand why I'm getting so much algae? Any suggestions would be much appreciated

@@FishRfun well it can be a lot of factors, so I might not be much help, but I would suggest the api phosphate test. I am on a Michigan well, tons of calcium carbonate, iron, and 1-2ppm phosphate in the water. We put it through a whole- house filter. I can always tell when we're past due to change the cartridges when I start getting hair algae. For me, the phosphates seem to be the triggering factor, as most of my tanks stay below 20-40ppm nitrate and even 40 doesn't seem to grow it for me. But if the phosphate is over about 2ppm and iron gets higher, I get it. The phosphate test could be useful, and I have found phosphate removing pads useful in my hobs. I'm not sure if there's an iron test, but you'd know if you have an excess if white sinks/ toilets get orangey stains, lol 😅. My water is probably not exactly like yours, but I'm hoping sharing my experience might at least give you some thoughts to go on? You may eventually find you need to fertilize differently, if you've been using an all-in-one liquid fert, those can sometimes deliver a little too much of one thing or another for your particular water. Sorry I don't have a particular solution for you, but I would try out that phosphate test and I wish you good luck with it! 🙂

@TarasTankFriends nope I think you're exactly correct. I remember the lfs saying something 2 years ago about the phosphates in our water. So I'll do that, but I don't have this issue in my 55g. I don't mind the algae as long as it's healthy algae. I actually like that look. I'll order that phosphate test. Thank you so much. I do appreciate the assistance. Thank you 😊

Hey thanks for watching...The high nitrates have come down which caused that I'm guessing. I haven't used any liquid ferts because a couple of channels said the stock should be enough to feed the plants, and the liquid ferts have finally diluted through water changes. So the nerites and panda garra in here have plenty to snack on...lol. hope all is well, and thanks for watching 👀

@@FishRfun That's great bud, your doing a fantastic job with your aquariums and channel! Have you heard of social blade? Shows how well your doing, they have a "future predictions" tab so you can see what your forecast for the future is, your channel probably needs another month to show that feature but I found your profile on there today! Worth checking if you don't know about it!

@@FishRfun You should try some sort of floater plants such as Amazon frogbit or red root floaters. They are quite visually appealing and will help to keep nitrates at bay. I have them in 2 of my tanks and they are really good. Also, i know this tank contains snails but that algae will eventually get hard to control. If your fine with a little more work and a little less aesthetically pleasing looks, then it should be fine. (Do correct me if im missing on anything)

@@smashingamin I used to have amazon frogbit in this tank, but due to my mistake on liquid ferts, I had a nightmare situation happen with string algae. It's taken a lot just to get it to this point

@smashingamin i do like the algae look growing on the fake dragon stone, as some algae is a sign of a healthy tank. If the nitrates get out of control and I get hair algae on the plants, then I'll address that as it happens, but I do like the algae growth. Too much is a problem though. I've tried RRF and they hate me or my water. The frogbit did fantastic, but I'm also worried it might block out too much light from the plants below. I love floating plants, frogbit in particular, but i just don't want it anymore in this tank. It's a great plant though

I had to step back because I thought I was reading my comment because I had wrote "how in the world have I not been subscribed"...lol. hey I'm interested in what you're going to do with that soil because that's my next thing. A fully planted tank. I'll be following along on that if you post the progress, because I'll be doing it soon enough

@@FishRfun I always tell myself I’m going to do a video on it, but never actually do lol maybe I will this time :) I’m nervous a bit cause it’s not as easy as just throwing the substrate in like you would an aqua soil. Just a little bit of prep work involved. But man it’s so much cheaper. I’m really excited though

Well, but wouldn't cyanobacteria be causing a lack of oxygen? I honestly don't know much about it. I know my nerites graze on it and my nitrates are finally under control, so I can deal with a little algae, but not cyanobacteria...how do you know for sure?

Lets get your Christmas moss right 😂 it's flame moss😉 Don't alter your tank as your cory's will enjoy the extra oxygen as it will resemble stormy weather in which cory's breed so you must give them time to adjust to the flow to kick into gear. You actually need a chinese algae eater as they would strip the algae off your ornaments, i'm going to add to my channel a tank i add one or two in and you can see them work the ornaments as they adore this stuff.

Oh do you think my tank is big enough for a CAE? That's a 10 inch long fish in a 15g tank. The panda garra and nerites should get to it, but in the meantime at least my nitrates have dropped and stabilized. I'm testing twice a day before feedings to make sure they stay below 20ppm. I do worry at some point my crypt in that wood is going to need to liquid ferts, and I might lose it if I don't add them, but I really want the stock waste to provide that, so I'm really just kind of trusting things right now, and keeping up with maintenance

OK so which one is Christmas moss. The 2 little sad things on lava rock, or the big one that just lost its structure. That one, the beautiful one that tool a year to grow was sold as flame java moss. Is that what is, because others are screaming it's Christmas moss...I'm so confused...moss shouldn't cause this much anxiety...lol

@@FishRfun Mine only growed to 3" no longer i had it till it died and i add another 2 in my 22g/120 litre tank and they live on this stuff and kept the ornaments clean and they won't hurt your other fish. I wouldn't be adding nothing to your plants as the nutrients alone in the tank will feed it like your other plants and those nutrients are your waste and nitrates they absorb.

@peridot-20 ok that makes sense and I know you're right. I've just got to have patience, but I have opened up more to the idea of having like a carpet plant in this tank, and really doing some planting, but we'll see. I tend to make a lot of plans, but don't put any money that I'll finish them.
