My Honda Pilot is almost 20 years old but it's still running great. I recently had the valves adjusted and the timing belt replaced so it can go a few years more. With that done, I thought I'd really like to have Carplay, Apple's car solution, for long trips so in this video I cover installing a Sony Carplay head-unit. Having the phone software be the audio and especially navigation system in the car makes so much sense. It really is much better than what the car manufacturer's offer.
Overall, this is not a very complicated project but it does require some patience. Also, my Pilot had the Honda backup camera installed and I wanted to tie that into the Sony unit so that added a bit of complexity because the wiring for the camera terminates under the passenger seat (instead of at the head unit). Lastly, the Pilot had a nice subwoofer that was powered directly by the factory head-unit so to keep the subwoofer working, I needed to add an amplifier (though a cheap one works fine for me - YMMV). All this is described in the video.
Good luck. It's worth it! I really enjoy having the Carplay system in my 20-year-old Pilot!
