Agree, many wish to deny the idea the evil exists, and that people can be evil, and/or do evil things. If evil does not exist, then governments ruled by "the wise" can do many things without consideration of morality or human or consitutional rights. That is the agenda behind denying the existence of evil. We have the ability, as humans, to do terrible things to each other, and to be able to live with it. Evil people can still have loving relationships, enjoy the opera, and have a nice meal for dinner. With humans, evil is an everyday thing, it is part of the human condition.

People have this caricature version of Nazis in their mind, ranting madmen foaming at mouth, spewing hatred and nonsense. Nobody is actually taught how mistaken principles can lead people into a form of reasoning that logically leads them to evil. More than tens years ago, I was in college, and took a course on the Holocaust. It was for higher level history students who, presumably, knew a bit more about history than the average student. But when it came to primary source readings, they'd see something like Alfred Rosenberg or Gottfried Feder, and they could not believe those men were Nazis. Their arguments were entirely too rational. These people were too intelligent and educated to be Nazis. They believed Nazis were only the unwashed, stupid, and hateful masses. That's the problem with dehumanizing evil people in history. They become other-ed so much that people can't ever recognize similarities they might themselves bear to those people.

“Race doesn’t exist” incorrect. Different races have different bone structures, physical features, different sized brains. It’s an evolutionary reality. Suddenly people think that evolution stops at human beings, or at the neck. Which is a completely political or religious idea, based in communism, the enlightenment or Christianity. Evolution has caused us to evolve in different ways depending on how people live and their environment. This is basic stuff, but a lot of people are incapable of overcoming this thought. And it’s a topic that a lot of people don’t handle reasonably. For anyone interested research FST. Which measures the genetic differences between populations. Europeans and Africans have the same level of genetic differences as between a North American wolf and a Coyote, which are actually classed as separate species by experts. I’m yet to meet a person who can debunk this. So in conclusion yes, races do exist.

If race doesn't exist, why do people on different continents look different rather than looking generally similar? Why different skin colours, shapes of the eyes, shapes of the head? Where do these things come from? Do they NOT come from genetic differences between people? I don't want to be misunderstood, I am not in favour of race hate and I am not what one would call a racist (meaning hateful because of racial features) however I do find it kind of hard putting a norwegian, an african and a korean next to each other and saying "you're all the same". Hell, we wouldn't do that within what you would (I guess) call ethnic groups, since for example not all germans are the same, not all the japanese are the same et cetera. BTW I was terrible in biology, chemistry and so on in High School and I am not interested enough to do research as I don't know how to do it. But if genetic differences are not the reason for distinct peoples existing then what is? Or don't they exist at all? I am so confused. Are races and ethnicities the same or does the latter exist? What are they? This whole thing came to my mind because you casually threw it in at the beginning during your segment on Hitler.

To win a war you need logistics, training, organization, industry, national unity, operational control, resources, technology, doctrine etc. etc. You can't just give soldiers a special pill and "oh now they have super powers, they can beat anyone." Another thing about combat is, you don't need pills to stay awake when you're being shot at, your adrenaline will keep you going for periods of time that are unfathomable. I get so tired of arguing with idiots on here and reddit who quote that shitty "Blitzed" book as if Norman Ohler, a *fictional novelist* understands how a military operates. Yes they had Pervitin, yes they took it to keep them awake; No it did not help them in combat, No they did not use them all the time; it screwed them up. Ask yourself, how many meth heads do you personally know have a high paying important job which requires a high level of intelligence and still maintain normal cognitive problem solving and organizational skills? Anyone who is serious about understanding WW2 laughs at the idea that Meth had any substantial effect regarding the success of the Germans from 39 - 41. Besides, reading the numbers of pills produced during the war make it clear that soldiers would've had TWO or THREE pills... per month. Stay away from Ohler. Yet when it comes to world war 2 its like if anyone contradicts the well known narrative, then you are a nazi sympathizer or a nazi itself. Yet its also these same emotions which have created a divide in what it means to be "right/wrong" and what it means to actually be critical in a constructive manner. You know things are bad when the words Communist, Fascist, right winger, liberal and ect have been relegated to simple insults and it feels as more and more things become blurred that human emotion will strike and history will repeat its self as a group of opportunist take the helm and go from there. Its nice to see variety and a comprehensive approach to topics like world war 2 as it greatly expands upon the situation which people seem to believe that they "know" about just cause they passed high school

I had this conversation with a Jewish man once, that casting the Nazis as super-mega-crazy-evil in a whole different reality than anything else in history is actually really bad for society and understanding how things played out... And how they could repeat. Very few people even understand what the politics of Nazis actually was and would have no way of recognizing it. And more controversially, I argued that treating them like that over time will ultimately turn Nazis subversive heroes like pirates and Vikings. We name our sports teams after those people because they are symbolic of extreme aggression, it's that there's been enough time that their murdering and pillaging has lost its edge and now they're "heroes." Overall, the Jewish man didn't care for my arguments, but he grudgingly admitted I had a few reasonable points.

@@signoguns8501 Pervitin - the drug that Germany widely distributed to its soldiers and tank crews, and apparently also the drug that even Wikipedia claims that Funny Mustache Man is only "rumored to have begun... using after1937... although disputed by historians...." - is also an amphetamine, not methamphetamine. Apparently the Japanese military distributed and used methamphetamines under the name Philipon during the war, before the effects were widely understood. Allied bomber pilots were also given amphetamines such as Benzedrine to keep them alert through long bombing runs, and it seems that amphetamines more recently were voluntarily used by US pilots for much the same purpose during the the Persian Gulf War. (Allegedly Russian soldiers are using them now in Ukraine, according to Forbes and other sources, and it wouldn't surprise me, though I'll take almost anything the press says about that war with a grain of salt.) The Soviets apparently also dabbled in drugging their soldiers, but that information doesn't seem to be as easy to find: 2,4-Dinotrophenol seems to have been a (non-amphetamine) Soviet wonder-drug for its fighters in cold weather, otherwise used as an herbicide, explosive, and weight-loss drug, which had the mixed benefit of keeping Soviet soldiers warm in frigid Eastern Front weather by quickly burning fat, keeping the soldiers alert and awake and active, at the risk of heart attacks and starvation (the starving Soviet soldiers had precious little body fat to spare without burning it faster to stay warmer), I see some references to various sorts of drugs being distributed to at least Soviet special forces, but over all the Soviets seemed to be pretty secretive on the topic, though, and I get the strong impression that much of the "Mad Druggie Mustache Man" myth was authored by the Soviets, as part of a Narrative that went something like "The decadent capitalist west use all these drugs, while the great Soviet super-soldiers only need all-natural vodka and True Socialism to conquer the world!" I press X to doubt.... WWII, like WWI before it, was a high-tech war where the various fighting forces quickly adopted all sorts of new technologies to gain advantage against their enemies, and "wonder drugs" were just one of the new high-tech weapons they adopted. I would bet that pretty much every major participant in WWII that could afford to do so used amphetamines in one form or another during the war, and no doubt afterward,.

We have become accustomed to seeing Hitler only as a manic, screaming demagogue because of his famous speeches to the assembled masses. The caricature of him biting his carpet and screaming in rage has become accepted. But far more realistic is the sober, calm, rational HItler behind the scenes. He could inspire fear and the utmost obedience in his highest chain of command simply with his cold-blooded presence. The only record we have of what he sounded like in private conversation are the Hitler-Mannerheim tapes of 1942. It's hard to connect this man's casual private conversation with an individual who could coldly order the extermination of millions of Jews in the Holocaust, and other horrendous crimes. But that is an equally scary part of who Hitler was.

The max you see is them saying its a social construct, but that doesn't means much, gender is a social construct, and math as well is a social construct. Race does exist. Its ridiculous to claim it doesn't, based on a random headline from some news site, instead of looking at the validity of the categorization of race in science. We use it for example in medicine. All you can do is use phenotypes and genetic clusters just because the term "Race" is too politically charged, but thats about it. There is nothing inherently wrong about the concept of "race".

I was under the impression that Goering was a morphine addict. I thought he had been hooked after a near-fatal injury in WWI. As an aside, I feel like the maximum benefit of Pervitin would be approximately hours 16-36ish, with hour 0 being the waking time. Ive never been in a combat situation while using, but for focus and rational thinking, its benefit was only about a full 24 hours starting around the time one would normally sleep. After about 48 hours on Pervitin, I think the crash and lack of sleep would seriously hinder someone's mental faculties. Say they get 4 hours of fitful sleep. They may be forced or compelled to re-dose just to achieve some level of function. So I can see the argument that some soldiers were hardcore addicts. It's probably heavily exaggerated, especially the argument that it played a major role in the France/Poland victories. I'd also seen a chart that documented barbiturate injections given by Morrell. So that wouldve been a nighttime medication. It's basically the early 20th century version of benzos (Valium, Ativan, Klonopin, Halcion ). A lot less selectively binding, a lot more dangerous in overdose as a result of the peripheral effects. This wouldve led to dependence quite rapidly. The question would be whether he was really impaired to the point of living in a totally separate reality. If he truly was, I doubt he'd have remained in power even with all the psychophants in his court. No way.

I have been a vegetarian since my childhood, and I never faced any stomach issues due to my diet lol, idk how much not eating dairy makes a difference in the case of vegans but a vegetarian diet is perfectly healthy for humans and no it wouldn't cause stomach problems (if you eat such a diet from early in your life that is). Someone like Hitler who ate a meat based diet for most of his life until that point may face such issues due to the gut bacteria in their appendix and large intestine not being suited for a sudden change in diet, since your gut bacteria's composition changes depending on your diet, so if you do a sudden change you're bound to experience stomach issues as the gut bacteria which helps in the digestion is not present in the required quantities. tldr it's more of a sudden change in diet that causes stomach pains when a life long meat eater switches to either a vegetarian or vegan diet rather than the diet being inherently not suited for humans.

Small hint about the vegan-discussion. I rarly eat meat, sometimes not even once a month. There are countless ways to gain all the other vital resources and vitamins you body needs from different plants and animal products. But it's first of all a challenge to find the balance and we have today so much more knowledge about different diets aswell as countless different cultures (witch many different menus and so on) as well as much better access to pretty much any food item we might want/require. All things Hitler didn't have. You don't have to be a meat eater to prevent stomach aches. But your making eating certainly more complicated (intersting, I would say ^^)

Not a mad man, a radical, every decision he made was based on his national socialist ideology, he understood mobile warfare but his national socialist beliefs, didn't allow for giving up ground, even in a mobile retreat that was a prelude to a pincer move to outflank the Russians, he just couldn't bring himself to give up any ground even if it ment 200,000 men would live to fight another day, its illogical but not because of drugs or madness, but because of his radical beliefs..

Here in Czech Republic the German Pervitine production took an unexpected spin decades later when it was first experimented on by the communists and then rediscovered by underground figures who used the German research started "cooking" Pervitine in the 70s, which was something totally unheard of behind the Iron Curtain. This resulted in massive Pervitine problem and huge consumption that largely lasts to this day. As such, I cant imagine the drug being used long-term by the troops, it is totally devastating after a couple of months and, as you mention yourself, its initial kick only results in a huge exhaustion and "sleeping loan" later on, not to mention horrid anxieties and paranoia.

As a neuropharmacologist I have some serious reservations about some of the conclusions you have come to concerning Hitlers, and the German army as a whole’s drug use. I have a deep respect for this Chanel, the history and the insights you come to are fantastic, but it’s all too clear you don’t have a fundamental understanding of how a lot of these drugs work, or even what a lot of these drugs were/are. There are fair too many examples, and I would need to watch the video again and make notes, so from what I remember I will pick a couple of examples to illustrate what I’m trying to say. Firstly pervitin is methamphetamine, and was incredibly common amongst the German population in the lead up to the war, and in the early stages of the war, it does actually improve concentration, physical and mental endurance etc for a time. Numerous studies, even a quite famous one in Germany in the 1930s involving students having to stay up writing and answering questions fir as long as possible, one group given methamphetamine and the other a placebo, I don’t know if it was a double blind study, I doubt it, but anyway it showed those on methamphetamine could concentrate far longer and keep on task than those on the placebo. Studies on amphetamine based drugs and stimulants in general have shown similar results, and in fact drugs like adderall, which contains a mixture of the two enantiomers of amphetamine are indicated and approved for use in various disorders, as are drugs like Ritalin. Amphetamine in fact was used by pretty much all sides in WW2 and is still used by some militaries to this day, fighter pilots for example may be given it, but only for short term use, and this is based on decades of research. These drugs used for performance enhancement, either mentally (you will see today the rise of drugs like modafinil in universities) or physically really only work over a couple of days, because after 3 days of no sleep you will start to either experience a “come down”, which is not ideal for soldiers, or if you continue to take the stimulant (which will require ever increasing quantities) cause some quite strange side effects, auditory and visual hallucinations, depression, hyper aggression (a common side effect of any drug that increases dopamine release) hypertension (or even hypotension in some cases), abdominal pain etc, none of which are conducive to a fighting force, and the Wehrmacht was aware of this, and various orders and stops and checks were put in place to reduce the consumption of the drug, and not only for the Heer. It is true they had access to pervitin especially in the French campaign, but the number of doses available were not limitless, and the adverse effects were noted, which is why in subsequent campaigns the use of pervitin was much smaller (also the clamping down I mentioned above). Your comments on Stalingrad don’t hold water with me, because it is well documented that by 1942 the use of pervitin was much lower that it had been in 1940. So for that example I both agree with some of your statements and conclusions and disagree, but I think that comes more from your lack of understanding just how these drugs work. Another example is Eukadol (oxycodone I believe) which you call opium, which it is not, it is opiod, that is to say a synthetic drug that binds to opiod receptors, opium is essentially a mixture of naturally occurring opiates like morphine and codeine, which comes from the opium poppy (Papaver somniferum). Staying on opiates I’d like to mention that Hermann Göring was in fact a morphine addict, an IV one at that, as a result of being shot in the leg during the beer hall putsch, I’m not aware of his cocaine use, but maybe. I’d also like to say that withdrawal from eukadol would not last months, it would be around one to two weeks for the acute withdrawal symptoms, possibly less, and there may be some protracted symptoms like depression or apathy that last up to 6 months, but these are quite different from the acute withdrawal symptoms that most people would associate with opiate addiction (one exception to this would be longer acting opiates like methadone, the withdrawal period can last up to 2 or 3 months but is much less severe, basically the shorter acting the opiate the more intense but shorter the acute withdrawal period and vice versa). Hitler was also given cocaine, I do not know when it was first given to him but it was at some point a part of the mixture that made up his daily (well more than daily) injections, he also used cocaine eye drops I believe. I also wonder why you did not mention that Hitlers health problems (the motor neurone ones anyway) could have been a sign of Parkinson’s disease, which a lot of people do use as evidence of his drug use as the condition is the result of the destruction of dopamine producing cells in the substantia nigra, though I would say his drug use probably didn’t cause this directly, but could have been a contributing factor, however as we do not have his brain to look at we simply don’t know, and are going off the notes of his doctors and late war footage of him. Another point I want to mention is about IG Farben, which was a conglomerate chemical and pharmaceutical company made up from various other companies such as Bayer (famous for the synthesis of Heroin and Aspirin). There are more incidents in your video of a basic lack of understanding of how these drugs work, or even what they are which I think should be amended. I really also have to disagree with your statement about veganism, it simply is not true that you cannot live without meat past a certain point, everything that meat contains you can get from lentils, nuts, beans etc and in fact the human digestive system struggles to break down red meat. So we can’t say that is the reason Hitler had stomach pains, again we have to work from the contemporary doctors records, and it’s quite a leap to conclude that his vegetarian diet caused his health to decline, this man was under tremendous stress and lived 75 years ago. Anyways I apologise fir the rant but there were far too many flaws with your understanding of drugs and the human body and brain, which effect your conclusions, which is a real shame, I know pharmacology isn’t the easiest to understand, but Google is always there to help. You have probably had some of these come up already but if not, I hope this helps you and others understand some these points a little better, I have tried to keep the medical jargon down to a minimum as I know it isn’t necessary. Despite all of the above and more, I do think this is an important topic and the video helps to find that middle ground between people either denying drug use or saying everyone was in drugs all the time (which they were not). Cheers

Not going to lie the whole "race is a social construct" argument that you argued is a bit of a cop-out denying that each people (race in this case) aren't different, a non-argument so to say. There are obvious differences, both physically in genetics and body characteristics such as eye, hair and skin color and how their bodies have adapted to live in specific climates and environments as well as more broad things such as regional culture and ingenuity to their respected regions of the world. The common argument is "we're one race, the human race", yeah true, but there's sub races of humans. Dogs, for example exist, but there are different breeds. So to are their different types of humans, just like dogs who have different type's of physical characteristics and intelligence levels. Yes I am aware there are "exceptions" that people will use to undermine that idea such as above average IQ's in relatively low IQ countries or how there are fair eye and skin people in Pakistan but the point stands that people, no matter where they are in the world live by in groups and out groups on a primal level and they will always see stuff through a race-based lens, it's almost like its ingrained in us as a natural phenomena, as opposed to a social based construct. Race is real, and I could get into semantics but I don't want to make a fuss. Go to a foreign village or town somewhere off in Nigeria or Pakistan or Central Asia or Europe as an outsider and see how you are treated, most will say you're an outsider because you are an outsider. "Race" is yes a politically loaded, term but saying it doesn't exist or is a social construct is just kicking the can down the road and in my opinion denying a very real thing. Look at Japan for instance, they specifically have an identity for who "is" and "is not" Japanese, the Nihonjin (Japanese) and Gaikokujin (foreign people).

Miss me with that bullshit, I quote word for word “ Go to a foreign village or town somewhere off in Nigeria or Pakistan or Central Asia or Europe as an outsider and see how you are treated, most will say you're an outsider because you are an outsider.” Don’t shoehorn your bullshit into here and put words I didn’t say in my mouth. I have no hate for black men here in America, they have just as much of a right to this country as the European-Americans. Many may argue what they want but Blacks are part of the founding stock to the nation
