You are a single mother with 5 children. This woman has a working husband, a farm, a full pantry and an amazon wish list. Does any of this sound wrong or are we all just buying into her bullshit about the fact that she is saving the environment one cake mix box at a time? The majority of food bank users are children. Let that sit with you the next time you decide to leave a comment that gives this thief accolades. She’s saving a nest egg at the expense of those who cannot speak for themselves.

When I first went to the food bank I thought people would judge me for having an Apple Watch. I also felt a little bit guilty. I’m the kind of person that would always go without for somebody else. But the reality is I lose my phone 100 times a day and I ended up having an emergency with my 1.5 year old and couldn’t find my phone. Talk about shear panic. After that my husband surprised me with an Apple Watch so I could find my phone and dial 911 if needed. Every time I look at my watch I think about how panicked I felt while I was completely alone with no phone. People can judge all they want but they would never gather all that info from looking at me lol be humble and kind always 💕

There is a church group in my area that gets food donated and sold to them cheaply by grocery stores that is close to expiring or damaged. They "sell" it for $25 a load (this is for gas money storage and other community programs). Well I make a little too much money to feel comfortable going to the food bank anymore about once a month I will get a load from the $25 pantry. But what I get is well over that in retail value. For example this week I got two dozen eggs (one egg was broken in each carton), 2 loaves of bread, 4 lb of chicken, one bundle of celery, two bell peppers, a huge box of raisin Bran cereal (The box was badly damaged but the cereal bag inside was fine) 2 ft long Italian deli sandwiches, an apple pie and some other sweet treats, and several smaller packages of precooked deli food like chicken fingers, potato logs, and mac and cheese. I get to feel good that I am keeping this food from being wasted and support the program. Seriously if they didn't donate it the grocery store would have to throw away those egg cartons because the eggs had broken and leaked into the packaging. I keep extra egg containers around just for repackaging eggs like this. Last night I took some of the boneless chicken wings that were in the deli food and made a quick sweet and sour sauce to toss them with that I served over rice and served with some broccoli.

I get something similar here in Australia but it's through a secular non profit. Our exchange rate is much higher, so I pay $35 for a large box of fruit and veg seconds/ rejects, a large box of damaged or close to best before date pantry items and 6 loaves of day old bread (Australian bread has much less sugar and preservatives so it doesn't sell after a day). I'm on disability, and I live with my son and dil who are autistic so I order once a week and it's delivered since none of us drive. A friend of mine works at a school for at risk teens, so anything we can't use due to sensitivities or intolerances we give to her to pass on, mostly stuff like muesli bars or sweet stuff.

Carolina, i use my food group here and love it. It really helps as a senior citizen. Some other avenues for people is to also search for a gleaning group that also gives people another resource. Also if a person is over 65 they can also check for a USDA food box. I think if a person can google usda and it will tell about this program. Your foodbank should be connected with this program or know how to connect to it for seniors.

Preach, Carolina!!! Yes, if you’re hungry, if your too cold/hot, you can’t buy new clothes or shoes for growing kids, or pay for medications, and food has gotten so expensive…go to the local food bank!! Help save the planet!!! Feed yourself, your family. The food would be going in the trash. Maybe you have a student loan payment now due to whatever is happening with the government…that’s not cheap. Maybe you had to get a new car. Maybe you had a medical issue with lots of copays…you aren’t a slacker, you aren’t taking from others. If you feel guilty about it…do something you can to give back to someone else! Volunteer at the food bank, mow an elderly neighbors lawn, drive a friend who needs transportation to the store or similar. It’s stressful for many of us right now, and the help is there…and it won’t continue if people don’t use it!! P.S. Elsa is an awesome and perfect name for the “Frozen Dryer” 😁 Thanks again, Carolina!

I’m not complaining but the reality is The food banks in my area are not really food banks but bakery banks. No meats very few veggies if any at all Mainly just sweets and junk so as I sit here in my w/c with a bag of beans A jar of spaghetti sauce and a half bag of rice to get me the month of June or buy food and go without my meds I’m stumped being diabetic mostly the food bank is a waste of gas as I can’t eat any of it and then people look at me like I’m ungrateful because I try to give away what I can’t eat. Food banks are a wonderful resource but our area all they seem to give is sweets/ starches and carbs. I am so happy to see that others have better resources

Mamma Baird's Great description of how the cake is done right down to decorating etc. When you said that I was reminded of people Boycotting major stores and restaurants. I don't think they realize that the workers in those places work sometimes 2 or 3 jobs to feed their family and put clothes on their backs. Good job on reminding people! There is no food bank where I live so if I needed it I would have to ask the fire department or the police department. Heck they would probably buy me the food. I don't eat cake that often, as yes it's a treat. Boy did that one look yummy! Fun fact I did all my own wedding food, not much. Just sandwiches deviled eggs, chips and juice water and milk. But my wedding cake I had a bakery make it. It was also a square one and cost me only $27:00 Dollars. No Joke! I also saved money and couldn't find a the dress I wanted at the department store. So off to Goodwill's and I bought a 5 dollar dress. We got married in our living room with our friends and family around. And my Father in-law paid the pastor of a church. The food would not be going into the trash (a common misconception) but if that makes you feel better doing what you are doing, then by all means you go girl. You aren’t missing out on any of your meals or endless snacks by the looks of you. Have you no pride? To steal from a food bank is one thing. To blatantly show it off on social media is another. And the example you are setting for your children - well, I just shake my head in disbelief. There are people who actually need food banks. By you “addressing the stigma” you’ve invited a whole new generation of sloths to follow your behaviour.

I did not call you fat. I did, however, call you out for stealing from others, because you are. A resource that gives out food to those who need it. Not to those who have a perceived notion of if it’s there I’ll take it. If your community is throwing out food then solve the issue, and not by taking it for yourself. If a cake mix is going in the trash, take it home, add your own ingredients to it, and drop it off at a senior’s home. You are setting the absolute worst example that you possibly could for your children. Charity begins at home. When you take advantage of others by demeaning your husband’s pay check, taking from social service agencies that are meant for the underprivileged and not giving back in gratitude for your own wealth, then you are the problem and not the solution. The food bank cake mix that fills your face instead of being circulated and enjoyed by many who would otherwise go without, would be better off in the trash if you can’t see the possibility of greater happiness for the world. This is Trumpism in a nutshell. Ask not what I can do to make this a better place but instead what I can do to play the system to my advantage and then boast about it is what the Make America Great Again theme exemplifies. You are no doubt a card carrying member. This is how societies begin to fail. At the main roots. When an amply fed woman can go on social media and have others call her sweet and charming for stealing from the true poor. And justify her actions with gobbly goop as though her answer is the only solution to the problem. Princess Preventing Waste is what you think you are, when in fact you are so one minded that you can’t think outside the box.

Those of you saying you do not qualify to go to a food bank I say you need to Google "ASPE and HHS 2023 poverty guidelines" and you will see the federal poverty guidelines by the number of family members in your household. If your foodbank has any monetary requirements that is what it will go by with a few exceptions such as recent loss of income due to a job loss, struggling to go back to work after the pandemic, disability, child with a disability in the home and a parent giving to stay home to give care, newborn in the house, and many more that will have you still qualifying even if your family is above the 2023 poverty guidelines. FOIDBANKS ARE A CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION. THEY HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO BE CHARGED FOR ANY FOOD THEY DO NOT GIVE AWAY AND HAVE TO THROW IT AWAY. SO IF YOUR FAMILY IS IN THE 2923 POVERTY LEVEL OR LOWER YOU SHOULD BE SIGNING UP FIR THE FOOD BANKS!! Many who qualify do not use the foodbank. If a voodbank is not used enough it shuts down and that harms the poorest who do go to the foodbanks. SO IF YOU QUALIFY THE PLEASE USE IT SO THAT FOODBANKS ARE NOT SHUT DOWN. SO BY NOT GOING IF YOU QUALIFY AND ONE IN YOUR AREA SHUTS DIWN YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR IT SHUTTING DOWN AND MANY CHILDREN GOING WITHOUT BECAUSE OF IT. THINK OF YOUR FAMIKY, FRIENDS AND NEIGHBOURS AND THEIR CHILDREN THAT STRUGGLED DURING THE PANDEMIC. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE 3 MONTHS OF FOOD STORAGE TO FEED YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY SITUATION BE IT A BATURAL DISASTER OR ANOTHER PANDEMIC YOU SHOULD BE USING THE FOOD BANK TO START GETTING YOUR 3 MONTH FOOD STORAGE STOCKED UP!!
