THE GHAN
The Ghan travels north-south across Australia.
Construction of The Ghan railway line began in 1878. The original line was on the eastern side of Lake Eyre. The train carried passengers and livestock to the markets in Adelaide.
Today, The Ghan travels on the western side of Lake Eyre. It goes across Australia, from Adelaide on the south to Darwin in the north.
The symbol of the Indian Pacific is an eagle.

THE INDIAN PACIFIC
The Indian Pacific travels east-west across Australia.
The train first ran in 1970. It goes from
Sydney to Perth, a distance of body 4,000 kilometres. The journey takes more than 70 hours.
The name Indian Pacific comes from the two oceans the train travels between: the Indian Ocean in the west and the Pacific Ocean in the east.
The symbol of the Great Southern is a kangaroo.
THE GREAT SOUTHERN
The Great Southern travels West-East North-South across Australia.
