Great video, young bowlers who are bowling tournaments with sport shots for the first time should definitely watch this, surface pads were my friend this year at college

I was shown by my pro shop owner, that drilled my equipment that it is not necessary to change surface of a urethane ball, we actually did a little trial and error on the lanes.I have been bowling very well with the Pitch Black, I just make sure to take the dry cleaning pad to it to keep the oil buildup off of it. I use the urethane when my reactive gets hard to control or it’s too aggressive in later games as lanes break down.

Don Webster lower the number, “more” hook. Really just reads the lane earlier. Which makes it appear to hook more. But really it’s just hooking for a longer time than if you use a higher number.

Also, I wouldn't say necessarily it's only for sport shots or for tournaments per say to use abralon pads. You can use them on house shots and knowing how to use them and maintaining the surface on your bowling balls will increase your averages a ton if you know how to use them.

How hard is it to bring a ball back to box if go as low as a 500 pad? Id hate to ruin a coverstock for one tourney... it would be different if i were sponsored, but, as a house bowler that bowls occasionally in tourneys, find it better to make adjustments with speed control or feet movement. Dear Brad & Kyle: This is one of the most informative videos I have seen within the bowling universe in some time. A few questions come to mind. 1. What is the best way to sand a ball by hand (I have never done it so I do not want to jack my balls up) and knowing how I evenly covered all the surface? 2. Do you recommend changing the surface on just a urethane ball or do you recommend sanding a hybrid or reactive coverstock? 3. Kyle, in one of your past videos, you mentioned something about knowing how to throw urethane. What did you mean by this? Thanks guys, your videos are awesome and best of luck in Portland, Kyle (sorry about Portland Brad, but you are just as awesome too!)

Have you guys tried using true cut pads by CTD? They work amazingly well dry sanding and even better with a spinner. They last a lot longer too. A lot of people around league have the misconception of more surface = more hook and less surface = less hook. It’s hard trying to re-educate people who have believed things I like this for a long time.
@jakherbertson4778
5 жыл бұрын
i have used the tru cut pads by ctd and i have to say they are much better than abralon imo. being two handed i actually prefer lower r.g balls with surface and these pads allow me to feel comfortable being agressive with the ball speed wise. Instead of having to slow down or let off cause the r.g is too high. Higher r.g balls can be too snappy for me at times causing over and under. I would definitely recommend these pads. also that last part i agree with one hundred percent. Its all about reading the lane front to back.
@toddkrueger6868

@Jackal_Blitz

You can put surface on pearls. It will just make them read sooner and snap less on the backend. Polishing a solid will make it behave more like a pearl, and sanding a pearl will make it behave more like a solid. (Note I said MORE like, not EXACTLY like.)

Since i do have no experience with changing ball surface whatsoever and only have a limited amount of bowling balls to change surface on: how often can you change surface of a single ball before it possibly does not fit the size regulations anymore? I imagine that ~ 1.5 mm of ball surface do not offer that much room for playing around with different surfaces.
@tylerstine784
5 жыл бұрын
I probably have balls way out of size adjustment to be honest. They're old and have been resurfaced many many many times. For your average league bowler I wouldn't be too concerned about it. But like brad and kyle say adjust only when you feel it necessary. I wouldn't play with surface every single time you bowl just for fun lol
@andrewkang2697
5 жыл бұрын
It would take a lot of resurfacing before it wouldn't fit regulations. For me, I put surface on my bowling equipment about once a month and I bowl approximately about 30-40 games a week. So it would probably take like I suppose 80-100 times of sanding your equipment before it wouldn't fit regulations anymore. And that's a ton of sanding your equipment. So I wouldn't be too worried about your ball not matching regulations and periodically maintain your equipment. If you maintain your equipment by sanding/resurfacing it then you will be able to use your equipment longer and your averages will def see an improvement.

Ive heard people say many times before is that hitting a ball with surface or resurfacing it, then it decreases the life of the ball, is this true or not?
@andrewkang2697
5 жыл бұрын
No, this is not true at all. Resurfacing allows you to prolong the use of the ball as it restores the peaks and valleys as the ball is being resurfaced. Most pros on tour do not resurface or maintain their equipment because they have the liberty of drilling as many bowling balls as they can. Most amateurs can't do that so you have to maintain your equipment by resurfacing your equipment. If you don't maintain your equipment then you may not get the same consistent ball reaction.
