I made a 20-22" handle for an old 6lb council tool maul and it is my favorite firewood splitting tool. It is now my brother's favorite splitting tool and I will be making myself another one lol.

Making it sharp and short with enough weight to get through the tough pieces means basically anyone can swing it effectively.

Looks like a great profile for a splitter head (and beautiful), and the guard and grip part of the handle make sense on the short axe. On the full length one those handle features seem out of place as the axe is used with two hands, one gliding up and down the shaft. Wouldn't that guard and the gritty texture make that difficult?

Not at all. It's not that "grippy"

How did I miss this video, busy with my chickens is my only excuse. Never used one of those but it looks solid, love the guard and that profile. You make a salesman HaHa
