I will be covering values pretty shortly here. I have 2-3 that are already scheduled that will be going through values and some easy ways of getting different looks. I also have a newer playlist rolling out that will cover shading from the sketch and how to interpret that into illustrator by a (paint by number ) strategy.

I finally got through this. It took me about 3 hours to get it done. I am fairly proud of it. Something goofed on the coloring though and one of the feet did not take the yellow color. I am not sure what I did wrong but overall it's good.
@JasonSecrest

If you look at you flat color layer it is possible that the live paint broke it into segments and closed off the group which would mean there isn't any color taking in the feet. Since we were flat coloring it would have been really hard to catch it. If that is the case, there will be a straight line from the nearest points across the top of the feet. If you turn on transparency grid it should show a transparent background under the feet.

probably the best pen tutorial I have found. I have been avoiding using the pen tool and just the pencil tool for so long. Is it really better to use when drawing for beginners?
@JasonSecrest
3 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful Ronin! If you are specifically drawing I would stay on the Pencil Tool. The main decision is how much time you have built up drawing on paper. You can leverage your built in muscle memory using the Tablet and Pencil Tool over the Pen Tool. I have been using the Pencil Tool more as an into to Adobe Illustrator over the Pen Tool.

Hi, thanks so much for this tutorial ... I have been struggling with the pen tool for a while, and have a question. On my system (PC, not tablet), I'm not getting how you're using the line segment tool to draw straight lines and then "Shift C" to adjust the line, as you do at 12:25 for instance ... I'm not sure how that's happening. I can draw the line segment using the line segment tool ... but when I "shift C," I get the "convert anchor point tool." When I move it over the center of the line I want to adjust, it doesn't then turn into the black arrow with the handles for me as it does for you. Instead, when I touch the line, I just get the error message about how I can only use the convert anchor point tool on anchors. Ack! I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, but what? :-) Thanks for any help ...

Nope. I have never opened the program ( I actually had to google what it was :) ) ... but I can’t imagine that it is that different from Ai that you couldn’t follow along or use the same strategies.

You don't have to set anything up in Adobe Illustrator. If you are looking to set up Keyboard Shortcuts, you can click under Edit to edit or modify Keyboard Shortcuts. I do not have that video since I do not recommend it for beginners or people who are looking to follow along.

The cool ones to add are with the Pencil Tool (Smooth, Join, and Path Eraser) You might also consider adding shortcuts for the Knife Tool and Path Simplify. Object - Path - Simplify. Note that it does create a new profile so you can always go back to the default.

I am looking at both of the anchor point guides. Did you go back to the online website to get new resources? Unless you synced the dropbox folder with your computer, the new content doesn't automatically download to your computer.
