really interesting. some feedback: in the second part, you could use grayscale sampler instead of color sampler and swizzle. to get the pyramid shape, you can use the 'shape" node instead of using a fx-map. using an FX map may globally be more efficient to achieve the same effect, but it remains a nice pixel processor tutorial ;)

Allegorithmic thank you for that information. I'm still finding my way around the software but I expect I'll be using it a lot from now on.

that's an amazing tutorial. but the sad thing is that I hardly figure out the fundamental, why it works this way(after watching your tutorials, I got a little bit of idea, tho) thanks for making this

Thank you, Sir! Thumbs up and you have another subscriber. I hope to see more examples/tutorials as you play with the pixel processor. Values, integrals, x, y, coordinates... It's like programming but with visualization. Love it.

Your videos are amazing and very informative. I had a request.. If you could make a video of the brick pattern (offset mosaic offset) photoshop tutorial, it was there available on the site but it's taken down. Thanks

Hi, first I want to say thanks for this tut, it is great and helpful. Another thing confusing me is that you used original float point values($pos.x and y multiplied by a constant) and subtracted them with floored values to make image tile. I don't understand this method so I tried to change floor to ceil and nothing changed, then I replaced them with frac( I think basically they work the same to take out the intger value from a float), nothing changed again. So here is my thought, you can simply multiply the $pos.x and $pos.y by a float to achieve image tiling effect. The part about flooring the $pos values doesn't change anything since I think the $pos values are series of variables and opertations like floor or ceil will not apply to them. I am not sure if this is correct so I want to discuss with ya. And thanks in advance.

Interesting. Thank you. I made a video in response but the short answer is I think you are right. I was trying to solve a problem I was anticipating that didn't actually exist: kzitem.info/news/bejne/pm2ZrH2cpax9nIo

Thank you for a such quick response to my comment. I now can see why you were doing that. I was trying to make checker pattern (although it is already in substance designer's library), multiplication $pos values and flooring them and then dividing them by the value used in first multiplication cannot get the patterns to loop unlike what I can achieve to make tiling effect. Then I found that your method actually can make patterns loop. The problem is I can only loop the gradient from black to white as many time as I want but I cannot directly get checker pattern. Then I used a pretty stupid way to convert it to checker pattern by using conditional branch to make any values that are greater than 0.5 become 1 and make any values that are lower than 0.5 become 0. This is my workaround but I know it is not the best way of achieving it. I hope you have better way to do it.

I am sure it is not useful for me to make my own checker pattern but by this way, I can learn more about how functions work inside substance engine and it helps me establish some fundamental understanding of using functions. :)

You have to break the image into even and odd zones. Then whenever the row is the same evenness as the column you make it black, otherwise if one is even and the other is odd you make it white. For example: www.dropbox.com/sh/vf4xbtnzuu3eeal/AAAi44AzC8R7i1CVOsLUQ6uPa?dl=0

Thank you and I got my checkers. I keep thinking that substance engine is quite strange.
