You may not know but Adobe disclaimer blog stop at section 4.1 and dont talk about 4.2 for a reason. A royalty-free sublicense in Section 4.2 means they don't own the image but can sell it with NO OBLIGATION to pay the owner. What does it matter who owns it if they have infinite rights that are BETTER than the owner's? And take into account their right to: + reproduction, + public display, + publicly perform, + distribute, + modify, + creat derivative work base on your content . That's alot of power over the customer content or even more. - Edit: They states that the license is solely for the purpose of operating the software. But never say AI image generator is not part of those "software". Which mean the license still open up for them to train their AI generator with user's data

You forgot to mention some things. First of all, section 4.2 specifically states that the license is solely for the purpose of operating the software. In other words, we use the software to modify an image and we grant them a license to provide the requested modification. Section 4.3 then goes on to very expressly note that Adobe does not claim ownership of its users work. I’m no longer practicing law, but I am an attorney. So I put that hat on and actually read the TOS. I came away from it being puzzled by why people are so upset.

For YOU as reviewers, yes, that's an issue, but for almost everyone else, they're buying a new camera and the software at the same time or AFTER they bought the camera. As for FEATURE updates, sure, you might want a new feature that they announce, but that doesn't diminish the usefulness of what you previously bought. The only time the lack of updates is an issue, and this is a BIG issue, is when there is program breaking bug, which is really shitty, but also generally shouldn't be an issue.

I do think a lot of the Leica "glow" comes from the poor (or non-existent) coatings of their much older lenses that led to halation and other strange contrast issues. It's important to note that Leica was renowned for their lenses way back when 35mm format (a very small format at the time) was fairly new and sharp lenses weren't nearly as available for it. Some older Leica lenses have no coatings at all, and I can definitely see the difference when shooting a 5cm f2 Summar from 1937 versus a Canon 50mm f1.9 Serenar from the early 50s with a very similar double-gauss optical design.

About testing lenses for defects: I used the program MTF mapper to test just center sharpness on a Fuji 150-600. Based on the results I sent it back to the dealer and got one that has about 2x the MTF50. Took me about a week to test this out at home (even though I worked with optics as physicist for a few years). What lens rentals says in their blog, which I also recommend for little of background and solid data, is that you'll immediately recognize a bad sample and all others are good enough, even with some variation. I disagree slightly: I think a 50% span in MTF50 at the very high level of today's glass is ok, but beyond that is a bit much, even if it's not immediately obvious (what's "obvious" anyways?). I also don't get the argument of "our numbers have been misused, so we don't publish them", which I read as the main argument. Maybe I misunderstood something there, I sure hope so. Still, I'd prefer seeing them again.

Heck Adobe sells a product called Adobe Enterprise Manager that allows multinational companies to centrally manage privacy across all digital assets in the portfolio. Again Imaging product management seems to be operating as a stove pipe. Just give consumers the choice first because everyone can predict how the EU and California will respond.

All the professionals have accepted the TOS right away... what else would you do? Tell your client to wait another 3 months until you can recreate the job on some other software package that has really just been trying to superficially copy whatever adobe did? Probably controversial, but Fujifilm needs to slim down it's line up to 1 SLR style and 1 Range Finder style per tier: GFX100II / GFX100R X-H2 / X-Pro 4 X-S20 / X-E5 X100VI Currently we have too many X-H2 cameras, with one entry level mini version of it in the X-S20 also. He X-T5 and X-T50 seem like a pointless middle ground between modern PSAM SLR style and retro Exposure Triangle dial Range Finder style. The X-Pro 4 should be the pro photo option, with the X-H2 being the pro hybrid option. The X-S20 should be the entry vlogger option with a flip out screen and tally light, with the X-E4 being the compact travel, family doc, and snap option with a flip up selfie screen. IBIS on everything, and update that 2019 AF already. 😂

Jordan, you have to see HBO's Rome. Best ever miniseries, just be aware it is very raw and absolutley not for children. All reviewers have wanted a lot more than just the two seasons. My favourite miniseries, well worth watching.

Thanks. I think Fuji's done a good job segmenting their line of cameras. The X-T line for pure photographers, who shoot videos occasionally. Tilting Screen is THE BEST screen for photographers who love the art and craft of photography. The X-H line for hybrid shooter, who shoot a lot of videos. Fully articulated screen.

I quit Adobe 5 years ago. I had a subscription for $10 a month, and they charged me $20 to cancel it ??? Lesson learned! Also, perhaps they will decide what photos are illegal, after they find you and your photos?

Chris has me thinking that the X-S20 is a better back up camera for my X-H2S for event photography. It seems to be the same handling. I've been using the X-T30II but the switching back and forth is making me nutty! I can instead save the X-T30II of my street work only. I love this show!! I do feel like the three of you are my photog buddies!

give Darktable a try its free and more advanced then LR, just don't expect it to behave the same as LR and give it some time too as it has a large learning curve

Regarding Adobe: One thing that didn't get as much attention as it should have is the fact that Adobe used faked images to promote their new "generative remove" tools for Lightroom (mobile). They inserted people into empty backgrounds and then "removed" them with their new AI tools. Only problem is you could see it was fake. Why hasn't this been reported on?

We had an demo with them where we specifically requested them to do things they weren't expecting, forcing them to go off script, and the tool still worked. Not sure where you're getting that info. -Jaron

@@PetaPixel By looking at their own promo-images up close. You should really pay close attention to the photos they send you for your own article from May 21st on your PetaPixel website. Clearly the "Before Generative Remove" image with the guy yawning in the background was faked. Look hat his hand, the cutout around his body, look at her hair. Then compare that to the supposed "after" image. How do you explain how Lightroom would have been able to generate the storefronts in the background? Why her hair looks normal in the supposed "After" image, yet noticeably edited in the supposed "Before" image?

Suprised that Chris didn't say that the most widespread use of modern 3D is adult movies. 40:16 that sound was amazing. And all of that has nothing to do with long promised great APS-C shootout from you, which I still hope to see one day.

As a beginner / intermediate photographer, I got the XT-30ii as my first mirrorless last year and I fell in love with it and photography in general. I wish wish wish it had IBIS though, my hands are a bit shaky and it is really noticeable when I do night photography :( (Still waiting on my X100VI)

Hi Jaron, I too recently purchased the Nikon Zf with the 40mm lens. I love the camera! I did also purchase the SmallRig grip which is a very nice addition to the body. As a Canon shooter, I looked into lens adapter and found a surprisingly good one, the Megadap EFTZ21 PRO. It seems to work well with my old EF 400 5.6L lens and my EF 16-35 F4L IS. Note that it will not focus well with my Tamron 100-400. The jury is still out but it’s seems to be a nice stop gap while you flesh out your Nikon lens collection. You may want to check out and review this adapter. One quirk, completely removed the adapter from the lens and body when changing lenses. For some reason, as noted on the Megadap website, not doing so may cause autofocus issues. Love the podcast guys, keep up the great work!

I love the 40mm prime, Jaron! But add Nikon’s own soft release button to that Nikon zf and it ends up with a truly classic look. I’m building a photo studio now. And the zf with that soft release button is going to double as decor because it is that gorgeous.

When companies cease to have experts in their HR and marketing departments the whole business becomes skewed. They make the decision based on making money and not supporting the customer.

I highly recommend you use the SmallRig grip for the Zf, it is technically usable without, but it feels much better with a grip. There are several options but the SR one I know is good. Edit: also I highly recommend trying out some old Nikon glass. There are some amazing focus assist features, both on the K, AI, etc. lenses but also on the D series lenses you get subject tracking with focus confirmation which is incredibly useful.

i’ve been using photoshop since 1993 and i have had the entire adobe suite on my macs since 2000. i cancelled my subscription on this news. i’m retired now, so i don’t have to use their products although i would want to. but this “mistake” feels like adobe sees their customers as not as customers who use they product but as a resource to exploit. this “mistake” goes all the way to the CEO and board of directors if they let this go out to their customers without personally reviewing it themselves. i mean, that’s supposedly why they get paid the big bucks right? personally i think they wouldn’t have a problem with the least ethical explanations of the legal language. and they haven’t added a new feature in 14 years i couldn’t live without.

Really loving the format of your podcasts, now a must watch. One question, as I look to replace my jurassic Logitec web cam with a digital camera and upgrading the sound for zoom calls etc..... Chris your setup wins with a great image (although they are all very good!), can you share the tech you are using, eg what camera/lens and stream deck etc? Thanks

Adobe… in corporate America, you don’t get rewarded for doing a good job and keeping the ship sailing. You are rewarded when you ‘fix’ something, even if that repair is fixing your own screw up. There are TED talks on this topic. It’s sad, but as they say, it is the way…

I absolutely love my GFX 50SII. I use it for portraiture and to make use of my beautiful Mamiya 645 lenses. Therefore, I couldn't justify the extra price of the 100, simply because I didn't need or want the higher resolution.(edit) In addition, I generally shoot tethered and the transfer speed from the 50 is significantly faster than the 100 that was available at the time.

Imagine how the open source software could improve if people like you would say "that's it, despite all the downside we're going to switch and support community driven projects". After all, everything what's available now was made and is continuously developed despite very little support from professionals. I'd love to see provisional photographers or maybe even camera manufacturer to invest (time and money) into development and popularisation of open source software like Darktable.

The discussion on the fujifilm line up was really interesting to listen to guys thanks. I think if you plan on getting the newer fuji primes, like the 33mm f1.4, 18mm f1.4 or 56mm f1.2 you would be way better off with one of the 40mp sensor cameras due to how much better they resolve compared to the 26mp sensors. I was quite surprised at the price of the x-t50 upon release, it might just be a little too high. Great episode guys 👍
