In Canyon Village, southern Namibia, you'll find charming clusters of quiver trees, the result of a special Gondwana project. These iconic trees, along with the Welwitschia, proudly represent Namibia as its national plant symbol and are featured on the 50 cent coin. Sadly, quiver trees were declared endangered by the IUCN in 2010 due to climate change and dwindling rainfall in the region.
Each generation of these trees can live up to 120 years, but recent droughts have hindered the growth of younger trees. To combat this decline, Gondwana initiated a quiver tree project in Holoog Nursery within Gondwana Canyon Park. You too can contribute to the conservation of these unique succulents by adopting a quiver tree, which will be planted in Gondwana Canyon Park. You'll receive its GPS coordinates via email, allowing you to visit 'your quiver tree' on your next trip to Namibia's stunning south.
