It was actually a big reason why he had so many long runs.. They'd load 8 in the box and play two deep and he'd run past the 8 at one point or another, make the other guy or two miss and he was gone. A far better defensive approach to stopping A.P was formulated in later seasons where they'd have three waves of four defenders to stop him.. If the guys up front didn't get push, the linebackers would clog it up until the deep guys could help out, or the linemen would come back on the play.. Initially, they just crammed everybody in on the line and would run blitz to get him in the backfield or on the LoS. and the end result was A.P. making one linebacker miss, and then he just outran the deeper defenders

He also did it in Buffalo outdoors battling the elements while AD did it indoors. OJ had the best season even tho he's a murderer. But I think the scary thing is I think the best is yet to come with AD since he has a QB to open things up for him now.

Americangerman2 Ya if he did that when OJ played his career would be over. Also the advances in medical technology can make players better than they were pre injury. Drew Brees is an example of that look at him pre 06. Peyton Manning had the best season ever after a neck injury. Adrian is the latest example. OJ w/o modern medicine and training, outdoors, and in a 14 game season was the best of all time if he had 16 games he would've put the single season rushing record completely out of reach.

The thinking behind an ACL tear becoming a regular thing is understandable. Yes, one day we will look back and think “It’s just a tear, so what?” But then a flood of realization should hit and process this was 2012..yes, medical advances are astronomical but this was a top tier running back that made a comeback BETTER than he was before. All that compiled on the technology available at that time. It’s 2019 and things are wayyyyy different now so imagine looking back at 2022 or 2032. He was an absolute GENETIC FREAK back then. That simply wasn’t possible when he did it. That’s the stamp that should be applied to this.
