It’s definitely tricky starting at that age with nothing like this around. Keep at it tho and you’ll be really happy with how you progress. I am 23 years old and learned to skate when I was 3 and have been playing competitively since 5 years old. The only piece of advice I’d give you is to practice on your stick handling, shot and puck control in general on dry land. Dry land training/stickhandling can be super beneficial when you get onto the ice. Then when you do, you can mainly focus on your skating practice and edgework progression while already being confident in your puck control abilities. I’ve noticed a lot of late starters struggle once they get the puck and it makes it that much more difficult when you are just getting confident skating too. Practice practice practice my man. And in the end it’s all about having fun with the guys and the culture. Happy hockey brother 🤙🏽👍🏽🏒

If you’re on concrete I recommend a “green biscuit” to practice and a “hockey wrap around” for the bottom of your stick so you don’t eat it up on the concrete. If you have a grass yard or no concrete you can also get a 3x5 or 2x5 piece of plastic and with a little WD-40 a puck slides like ice! 🤙🏽

@@joelmendelson6825 you rock thanks so much for the off ice coaching. Thankfully I’ve been playing inline street hockey for the past few years - but first time getting on ice with the puck was a real doozy 😂 having my 8 year old learning with me in his league is a good motivator to keep getting back up and trying again. Cheers

I'm in my 7th year playing ice hockey at the age of 46. One thing to practice aside from stick work is skating drills. There's all kinds of technique to learn and to practice both sides. I watch a pile of videos and practice at public skating. I'll never get good but at least I can somewhat keep up
