Thank you for this information and video!!! I started skating at 66 and took the Pre-Bronze FS Test and Adult 50-plus MITF Test at 72. My FS club did not even acknowledge that I passed, so I have since switched clubs and am working to take the Silver MITF 50-plus soon. (I'm now 74.) Thank you, Aimee, for being proud of Monica and acknowledging her effort and accomplishment. She is so lucky to have a coach who values her! I wish her continuing success! I hope to see more videos of this kind that show what us older people can do!

That’s awesome that you passed! Too bad that your club didn’t share your enthusiasm 😕 thank you for watching and leaving kind words! We appreciate your support!

I had to come back to this video to prove to myslef that I’m not crazy. I just took my adult bronze moves/skating skills and the judges failed me with the only critique being that I didn’t have enough speed. But the test criteria says adults 21+ standard requires “continuous flow and strength” which I have, the adult criteria says nothing about speed. It’s like the judges ignored the adult test guidelines and judged me as if I was taking standard track preliminary skating skills. Sometimes it just feels like adult skaters are a complete afterthought. Do you know if this is pretty common among judges for adult tests? Does virtual testing usually work out better for adults in that regard? Its like a total luck of the draw when it comes to adult judging it seems ☹️ Also thank you for your breakdown videos, they are really helpful!

IMO - the standards are not consistently applied regardless of whether its an adult track test or standard track test. Judging is highly subjective and varies widely! I had one skater get a retry on a virtual test that she later received a +3 on - she didn't actually improve THAT much, but it was a different judge. Keep in mind too that continuous flow + strength = power. It sounds that the judge is using the term speed in place of power.

I really enjoyed this video and it helped me with the Bronze test which I just passed! Do you make a similar video for the Adult Silver 50+ test?

Thanks for posting this. I've been working on my Bronze moves for the past few years (minus the year and half I was off the ice due to COVID), and the only thing that is still REALLY holding me back is my RFI mohawk. I struggle with that mohawk so much, and still haven't been able to totally nail it down.

You're welcome! Keep working and you will get it!

Prepping for my bronze moves currently! The darn mohawks are the bane of my existence, but if I can get this move down my skating transitions and general connecting steps will look so much better (hopefully!)

I actually prefer the 8-step mohawk pattern in Silver moves/skating skills! Many skaters (myself included) get stuck on the 5-step!

Coach Aimee, do you have any adults testing Pre Juv MIF at the adult 21+ standard? I just recorded my test but my coach thinks it won’t pass so we aren’t submitting it. I can’t find any non-standard track adult pre-juv test videos to compare it to.

That's.a a really good question! Monica is opting to test the Adult Track and is working on Silver now (the Adult equivalent to Pre-Juv). Peyton is working on Pre-Juv and is currently under 21, but she may hold off until she turns 21 in a few months and then move over to the Adult Track for Silver! Unfortunately, until you get to Intermediate, you must still meet the standard for the Standard Track because you can opt to test thru the Adult Track instead. Only at Intermediate is the test standard for 21+ at one test level below.

The mohawks were a little jumpy because she didn't bend her knees enough to make a smooth transition. Legs were too straight. She needs to get down more into the knees and concentrate on staying down when skating the moves. Then she can rise up a little and go back down again on the knees.

Agreed! We’re working on that!

Thank you for the video~ Do you have to be 21 to do adult tests?
