Northern Vietnam was a dream. While Hanoi may not be my favorite city in Vietnam I do love the surrounding areas. I took another sleeper bus (this one was shorter) to Ha Giang and did a 4 day, 3 night trip organized by Bong Hostel to explore the Ha Giang region which is the most northern point of Vietnam right by the China border. I spent 4 days on the most epic roadtrip on the back of a motorbike. The views of the mountains were spectacular and I met a great group of similar minded travelers from all over the world that I got to share this experience with. Everyone says that the Ha Giang loop is one of their favorite travel experiences and I totally understand why after completing it. I also did a 2 day, 1 night cruise of Lan Ha Bay departing from Cat Ba Island. This is the less developed Ha Long Bay Area and while it was heavily affected by the recent typhoon, the locals and working hard to repair the damages and the scenery was still beautiful. So many activities from swimming, hiking, squid fishing and biking at Cat Ba National Park. I also tried some different Northern Vietnam food specialties including the infamous Obama Bun Cha and the breakfast Banh Cuon. I can’t believe these 33 days in Vietnam are already over but Vietnam is definitely one of those places I know I’ll return to one day.
