My game has a `user://save_data.save` for High scores and other saved settings. If I release an update / patch / bugfix to an existing released AAB on Play Store will my `user://save_data.save` be over written? If so what are the ways around this? Thanks in advance.

You are a lifesaver, sir. I have been struggling with an error on the Play Store that I could not upload my game because it was not signed, but all the documents I could find concerning this only mentioned generating a key through Android Studio, and that one still didn't fix my issue. I am currently at minute 29 of your video and was already able to upload the game to Google Play, so thank you very much. Now to fix the couple of bugs I found on my last playthrough, so I can finally release the game 😆

Great video and very helpful! One thing to put in. When you install Android studio, you will not have "licenses" folder in appdata/Android/Sdk/. Create a project in Android studio and set up a virtual device. Idk if there is a easy wey to this, but if you dont do it, Godot will trow an error on you.

Yeah the process is pretty much the same the only real difference is just the ndk version and small stuff like that.. I do talk a bit about debugging and command line installation and stuff like things I learned over the last year.

7:23 for me the 'Adb' and 'jarsigner' options are not appearing at all, the first option is 'Android Sdk Path'. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong (Godot version is 3.4).

sadly it seems this tutorial is already out of date, you need to grab jdk 11 not 8 now and the godot project settings are missing a lot of things shown here.

Because its older and no one has updated it yet! it works fine when you update it I think someone just hasn't. You can update it though. You need to install your Custom Android build template and go find your gradle.conf file. Open it inside you will see your sdk version. From here you can change it to whatever you want. @@FinePointCGI Actually I found a solution, you have to go to the android folder in the godot project than in the build folder execute the "config.gradle" file with notepad, there you can change the "compileSdk" and "targetSdk" parameters from 29 to 30, also you have to update the ndk in the android studio and change the ndk version in the same file to the newest version. @@-Charan-el8jw I know you said you accepted your licenses but try to Go to Your-Sdk-home-Directory/tools/bin sdkmanager --licenses see if anything hasn't been accepted. As for your other problem usually this occurs if you haven't accepted your sdk licenses. so i have a feeling once you figure out the first problem the second one will solve itself. @@FinePointCGI I tried to run the godot apps on the android 11 emulator, I keep getting error "could not install to device: adb: failed to instal........ .apk" Failure [INSTALLPARSEFAILEDNOCERTIFICATES: Failed collecting certificates for /data/app/vmd.... apk: Attempt to get length of null array] Performing steamed install I have installed Android studio latest version, open JDK 11 (and later change to open JDK ver 17 only to get the same error), already make debug key and have set all parameter accordingly to the godot editor setting-android and the export menu. Already make the JAVA_HOME and java/bin into the PATH environment variable at windows 11 also. Strange thing is that it gives the error message only if I use Godot latest version (godot 3.4.2 stable), if I switch back to godol old version (godot 3.2.3) then the compile to apk (running the godot program on the andoid 11 emulator from andrid studio) run smoothly with no error at all. Have you tried to run apk at android emulator (android 11) from godot with the version 3.4.2? Please kindly advice if maybe there is some setting I forget to add/implement?

I used your video to get my first APK working... yay... but then when I tried this video to do AAB files, I get > Android Gradle plugin requires Java 11 to run. You are currently using Java 1.8. Whenever I click custom build. As long as I pick no custom build, I'm good, but custom build... no go. :(

It sounds like your Java version is out of date. Try to install Java 11 adoptium.net/?variant=openjdk11 and make sure your Path is set to your installed Java 11. That "should" fix your issue.

Usually you will need to pull down a newer export template or compile a new one for yourself. If your using a custom build a template which is usually how I go about it there is a config.gradle file in your Android/build folder that you can update it should have a section called minimum SDK, compiled sdk and target SDK version and if you set those to the correct version that play stores looking for that is another way to do it. It's in the tutorial just don't change the extension from apk to aab and it will export an apk. For how to use it, you can copy it to any Android and install it manually by plugging your phone into your computer. Tell your phone your going to copy files to it. Navigating to your drive that pops up. Copy your apk to your phone. From there Open up your phone's file browser navigate to wherever you copied your APK click on it and install it. That's pretty much how you use an APK!

Also i think apk expansion is called something new now. Probably requires exporting the assets using android studio and maybe also i need to learn to wrote a plugin to communicate with google api and godot. I will be researching this more later.

Can someone help me? I can export just fine an apk but when I try exporting an aab project it gives me this error: Invalid maximum heap size: -Xmx4536m The specified size exceeds the maximum representable size. Error: Could not create the Java Virtual Machine. Error: A fatal exception has occurred. Program will exit.

Are you exporting your game with 64 bit? Anything above 4gb will fail if its not 64bit. Outside of that you could check how your executable is being ran usually that shows up if -Xmx is set to too high of value. Im not sure why it would explode like that usually it wont unless somethings changed in the android settings...

The jar signer should be located in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_45\bin\jarsigner some where like that.. As for adb you will need to add it to your path. It should be located C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools

i have difficulties creating a debug keystore. first it says access denied, then when i got that figured out, it says convert to another format, then it says enter destination password and now it says keystone.jks file not found. i'm so confused

What command are you using to generate your keystore? I'm not sure why it would ask you to enter a destination password. Thank's for your clear explanation but when i upload my AAB file to play console refuses it and I receive this message : Your app currently targets API level 30 and must target at least API level 31 to ensure it is built on the latest APIs optimized for security and performance. Change your app's target API level to at least 31 But in Godot export window is limited to level 30 and you can't set it to 31. How can I fix it, please?

So there are a few ways to fix this. The first one is to recompile the android export template. I dont have a video on this but ill plan for it. second one is you will need to upgrade to the latest version of godot in this case 3.5. FInally you could try it has worked in the past using a custom android export and change the gradle settings to have the new verison I go over it in this short kzitem.infoNDCDIxmFriY?feature=share

Thank you for the value! My Godot doesn't have Export Format to choose AAB from. I use Godot version 3.2.3. What can be the reason?

AAB format was put into Godot in 3.3. Sadly it doesn't support it in 3.2 you may need to upgrade or try to back port it yourself. godotengine.org/article/godot-3-3-has-arrived

It works as long as you specify the SDK Path in AppData, I no longer receive errors, Glitched Code has the same Godot interface

@@FinePointCGI I think I figured out the issue, try disabling all security softwares like Microsoft defender and others. I was able to create a apk file after all.

Try using this video kzitem.info/news/bejne/15iAspaonaiHe6A Godot has been funky between releases so this one was for 3.3 but in 3.4 they changed it back so it depends.

This one is one of the harder ones to fix. Your apk signer is out of date/too new or your keystore is invalid in some way.

This is a generic error. Usually it means your keystore or license isnt there. Check for a "licenses" folder in appdata/Android/Sdk/. if its not there create a project in Android studio and set up a virtual device.

Hi I followed your tutorial closely and was able to build a .apk file no problem. But I cannot make a .aab file. The first difference I noticed was I got the following error: "android build template not installed in the project..." so I downloaded it from the project menu. But when I go to export the .aab file I get a very lengthy error message which says "gradle could not build your project" or something similar. Any ideas? I even made sure i was running the same version of Godot as you, and made sure I had JDK-8 instead of 11. Importantly I am on a mac.

If you are on godot 3.4 you will need JDK 11 what's your error do you have any special information like your Android API number is not correct

@@brontogames5384 According to this your dependencies-accessors folder is currently being used by a process.. you could try removing it and reinstall your android build template and see if that helps. Do you have a lock file out in /Volumes/NO NAME/Programming/Projects/testproject/android/build/.gradle/7.2/dependencies-accessors/dependencies-accessors.lock ? if so try and remove it.

Try debugging with adb logcat and see what you get from it. I'm on mobile but as soon as I get back I can link you a video that describes how to use ADB logcat..

You can download and install the command line tools developer.android.com/studio#command-tools and open up a command prompt and run sdkmanager --sdk_root= "platform-tools" "build-tools;30.0.3" "platforms;android-29" "cmdline-tools;latest" "cmake;3.10.2.4988404" "ndk;21.4.7075529" where is the path to where you want to install your sdk

@@rtvr5656 It shouldnt think that if you dont specify a formatter eg %s for string %f for float if you just do "% " it shouldnt call it a variable as far as I know..

@@ramazanbostanc4760 Are you using a release key? Im sorry im question the heck out of you but this issue usually occurs when your app is not signed which means your key isnt correct (usually)

Is the path to your keystore correct? Usually this pops up if the location specified is incorrect

@@vuokehenry-idolor2770 Its possible but not likely keystores are not mutually exclusive to the machine.. Are you doing a debug build when you do your build? Bottom left of your export location menu, after you click export, there's a check box that says debug. That can cause a problem if you dont have a release keystore specified.

@@FinePointCGI Ok so I was able to export a normal apk file but now when I try to export with custom build ot fails and it says could not compile settings file at settings.gradle in the build directory. I already tried re-installing the android build template but that didn't fix it.

Usually this comes up if your settings.gradle file is improperly formatted like a missing tag or something. Did you change anything with the file and if you did make sure you check it out and make sure that all of it is valid.

Check to see if you have these versions of your packages that error usually comes up when you have a bad package version or bad version code in your Android manifest. Android SDK Platform-Tools version 30.0.5 or later Android SDK Build-Tools version 30.0.3 Android SDK Platform 29 Android SDK Command-line Tools (latest) CMake version 3.10.2.4988404 NDK version 21.4.7075529 You could also try reinstalling your Android build template

You cannot convert a apk to aab only reexport it. Do you have the project file? If so under export format in your export options in the right pane will allow you to reexport it as aab.

@@blox6180 Yeah they did a filp flop on me. You may need to go back to the original video kzitem.info/news/bejne/15iAspaonaiHe6A but be sure to use the open jdk 11. I will be rerecording a new Android setup video soon.

Are you doing anything special with your android manifest? That error says there is a linking error which usually means something thats being linked externally is the issue.

Usually this error message suggests that there is a problem with the JDK image that is being used to build your game. It looks like the jlink executable cannot be found. So lets check to make sure that you have the correct version of your JDK is installed in this case its 11 Check that the path to the JDK is correct. It looks like the path in the error message is /usr/lib/jvm/java-17-openjdk-amd64/bin/jlink, so it looks like you may be using 17 not 11 and that may be causing your issues and verify that jlink exists in that directory I hope this helps!
