So you talk about sweats being the best place to get good in pvp because most of the sandbox is distilled down to teamwork, movement and primary gunplay and you talk about the elimination of stasis. But being a hunter first I think thats colored your perspective a bit because on hunter with the excwption of shatterdive the movement is very consistent for all hunter classes. As a titan main its hard to hear "go play scrims" as the solution to ironing out my gameplay, especially movement when behemoth is really the only class with very good mobility tools for titans. Bottom Striker is still very good but requires a very risky (in high skill play) apeing style of play to get really anything out of the toolkit. And Bottom tree hammers again is very good but is basically an ability spam class. I can definitely see limiting stuff like Howl, Coldsnaps, Hedrons, Chains, etc but as I titan I don't see how playing a light subclass and handicapping my movement is supposed to be the best thing for me. Behemoth has a lower skill floor no doubt but it also has a higher skill ceiling than other titan subclasses because the slide and melee unlock a lot of the escape vectors and bait potential thats available to hunters and top tree dawn. Do you have any thoughs about the concerns I've voiced? Any reason why my concerns might be misguided or if not do you have a recommendation to mitigate what Im talking about?
@ShutchyerLips
3 жыл бұрын
@@craigcrissman4651 just my humble perspective as a warlock main here: When I was dedicated to working on my movement, gunplay, and map awareness, I switched to top tree storm caller because it has such a limited tool kit, I couldn't rely on my abilities to do the work for me. It was basically handicapping myself so when I jumped on top tree dawn, it was just a matter of mastering the mechanics of the class instead of my overall gameplay. It can be pretty useful to divide your focus and work on less things at a time. I've never been fortunate enough to be able to play scrims, but I would assume it's most important to focus on playing your life, which requires deft movement and great map awareness along with team shooting when opportunities are available. It seems logical this would really increase your ability to perform quickly under pressure and eventually lead to better overall gameplay. The more handicapped you are (within reason) the higher your skill can develop and the more tools will make a difference as you add them in later. I'm curious if my perspective helps or if it's just rambling.
@craigcrissman4651

@@ShutchyerLips I agree that isolating certain skills is very helpful to improve, but something as fundamental as movement is something you should be trying to keep consistent across your gameplay because its fundamental to your muscle memory, positioning and timing. Nobody tells hunters trying to get good to master movement without stompees and then put on Stompees to add NOS to their gameplay because thats not how that works. If you intend to use stompees you just use stompees. For instance one of the most basic moves for higher level players in priming a guy rushing in with shotgun with your primary and then as he goes to slide in for the shotgun you slide backwards and shotgun him with your extended ohko range while staying out of his. The optimal timing for this is fundamentally different on light subclasses than on behemoth. So by playing sweats on say sunbreaker you're not learning the timing for how to do the technique optimally in your ordinary gameplay. Youre learning a different skill you'll have to relearn for behemoth.
@ShutchyerLips
3 жыл бұрын
@@craigcrissman4651 you're not wrong about having to learn a new tool when switching subclasses. What I'm advocating and what you're advocating are different approaches to the same end goal of gittin gud. I don't think either is wrong, and they may even take the same amount of time. They're just different. So, regarding your concerns for improving by playing a different subclass, it's pretty normal to practice on the high skill ceiling subclass you want to play, but your gains will ultimately be slower for each subset of skills you're trying to master because you're tackling all of them at once just by the very nature of having to use them all at the same time. I think the approach they're going for is slicing the pie of your own skills. If you already got gud game, then you're really only focusing on learning the toolset of the new subclass, but if you need to learn any general skill, you will probably see faster gains by using a subclass that forces you to focus on that skill.

I think my biggest weaknesses stem from me mainly solo-queuing. I've learned most of my tricks from just playing quickplay, so things like the quickdraw glitch never really came up. I know it exists, and I can occasionally do it, but I haven't perfected it. The other is team positioning. I play by myself most of the time, so whenever I go into modes like survival or trials, I'm pretty much just guessing on where to be when. I also have trouble with the whole "isolate each opponent into a series of 1v1's" tactic. And I would love to see a top-tree dawn video. That's my main subclass, and I've gotten pretty good with using the icarus dash to bait people and move better, but it would be great to get an in-depth breakdown.

Movement is probably the most important aspect in destiny and people wonder why hunters have such a high pick rate. Hunters either need a movement nerf or other classes need a movement buff (ignoring top tree dawn. That shit prolly needs a nerf and I’ll admit that I abuse celestial fire). I like to think that I’m a pretty good console player who uses Titian and warlock. It’s always pissed me off how easy it is of a hunter to ignore the laws of momentum and completely change direction with the press of a button. Their strafe jump is so strong that they can be flying in one direction only to jump and be heading in the exact opposite at basically the same speed. Even warlock dodging doesn’t have such ludicrous movement. Dodge also achieves the same goal on a 12 second cool down while reducing hit box size by 50% and breaking aim assist. This coupled with the jumping just makes them feel like they have cheap get out of jail free cards. If I were playing a warlock or Titian and jumped out into a sniper lane without thought, I couldn’t change my direction instantly and escape. I’m most likely dead in that situation. However, a hunter can mindlessly peek and press a button to escape as soon as they see the red glare of a sniper. Don’t even get me started in shot gun battles. Switching up movement so suddenly is game changing. Hunters are incredibly strong compared to other classes and some major tweaking needs to be done.

Hunters literally only have movement which scales with personal skill, they arguably are the weakest of the three characters in destiny 2 based on SUPERS. Neutral game revenant is the only thing that's keeping hunters alive, the super is mediocre at best and stasis itself is a bad idea to run now since the STRONGEST class behemoth titan now can benefit with those new exotics boots that punish stasis users and rewards the users bad positioning (getting hit by stasis with no negatives and getting buffed by the new exotic). That was a really good video! I wanted to know (maybe in a video) how you feel about controller players (in the conversation of aim assist and that controller players are "noobs who abuse aim assist", as well as crouch spamming when firing with a weapon. Do you think this is part of a skill gap? Great video, move on with stuff like that!
@PattycakesGaming
3 жыл бұрын
I think that aim assist in general will always be somewhat unbalanced. MKB just allows for much higher inherent accuracy potential than controller, so there has to be some systems to close the gap or controller players wouldn’t stand a chance. Then the problem becomes: how MUCH aim assist is okay? This will always be debated on what’s fair, especially when some weapons see more benefits than others (TLW vs DMT for example). Currently MKB makes up the lack of reticle friction by having much higher movement potential, which I think is a decent trade off. Ultimately they will never be perfectly balanced, but at the highest levels of play in D2 both input methods are fairly well represented by the best players.
@MrKevin-iq7xw
3 жыл бұрын
@@PattycakesGaming I didn't expect such a good answer to my question! I generally feel the same, but it's really annoying for me (as a controller player) who grow up with controller, when people say "oh this aim assist is insane this shot I would never hit on MKB!" but they forget sometimes that as a controller player, we can't do these crazy turn on flick shots, and I think both input devices are misunderstood by many sweats. The controller player is sadly often the "guy with no skill who needs aim assist to get kills" and mouse and keyboard see themselves as the true skillful gods, which I don't really like. I don't have a problem with both inputs, just play what your comfortable with and the most important thing: to have fun!! I think so many players forget why we are playing video games, so if nobody's cheating, using exploits or something like that, play what you want and have fun!

what is scrims, is it something you can do in quickplay or does it have to be an organized private lobby?

Do you or physics have a group for console (PS) gamers? Would love to be apart of some of these scrims.

I feel like top tree dawn having the best movement in the game is kinda stupid. Like, aren't hunters supposed to be the agile ones?

The Hunter’s ability to dash screws me so much because all I want to do is crouch step but I can’t because I just dash into the wall and get shot

Great vid. But could you please explain what SCRIM and SWEAT plays are. I just turn up in crucible and point my gun, I guess thats why I'm crap.

Scrims are basically just private matches with a agreed upon ruleset with the idea being to get rid of some of the cheesy weapons/abilities (I won't get into whether they actually acomplish this) and because of the fact that the people seeking out this kind of gameplay tend to be above average the average skill pool in scrims is far higher than quickplay

I like the destiny 2 pvp I'm new too destiny and if they got rid of the aim assist new players like myself will have a hard time getting any kills the matchmaking is bad enough for new destiny 2 players who have to go against level 100+ in their first match of crucible

So what would be a good way to start getting into scrims as someone who hasn't done them before (at least not since year 1 of D2)? Edit: I didn't watch far enough before commenting.

My experience has been that every class has solid movement and high movement potential, but hunters are the most precise.

Nah Warlocks are. Hunters are used consistently because it’s easier to get used to the movement simply because of dodge. Warlocks are the king of movement if you can master it

@@TheCrunchyDragon The high mobility stat every Hunter has probably. I main Hunter but I just feel like Warlocks have amazing movement. I’ve been up against top tier Warlocks and it is crazy what they can do
