20 years of selling teapots, my experience tells me that the sharper you make the end of the spout, the less likely it is to drip, a non drip teapot is a wonderful thing. People return teapots because they drip!

I've just gotten into pottery, made my first pieces from start to finish just a few weeks ago, I'm really digging this teapot. I'm finding I liked hand building moreso than the wheel. I really like the wheel, but I find it so difficult to get centered. I find I can be far more creative hand building.

The wheel has a very steep learning curve, it is important not to get discouraged. It is extremely fun, once you get the hang of it. Almost everyone struggles with centering in the beginning and if just stick with I'm sure you can get there! Ive been working with clay for 30 years and I'm still learning tons of new things. It never gets old, so congratulations!

I'm with you on the hand build as opposed to the wheel, they both have benefits but I keep going back to the wheel as I really want to have that skill. They are both beautiful, the main thing is to enjoy it clay used as different degrees of dryness I believe is limitless in form creating possibilities. All the best with your journey.

What did you use to seal the handle. I usually enforce it with clay but you used a brush I think? If so what was on the brush, slip?
@davidhughes8861
3 жыл бұрын
I use slip, or I apply water to both surfaces before scoring, this creates slip. The paintbrush is used to wipe away the excess that oozes out when you press the handle on. It also cleans up any scoring that was not covered by the handle.

How long did it really take you to do this? I am at the beginning and I spend hours and hours to get a sphere! ;)
@davidhughes8861
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Katia, I'm guessing that it took about 1 hour to make...but please keep in mind that I have been teaching students of all ages for over 20 years. The key to getting a nice sphere, is to tap with your paddle very gently. Hold it in your other hand while constantly tapping and turning. I would also note that mine is certainly not perfect.

Great video and the end result was amazing. I know you said it was for your students so they probably know your techniques. I would have liked it a little bit slower. Couldn’t always see what you were doing

Sorry Anne, It's a balancing act to keep things moving, and also show everything clearly. Here is a slower paced video of the beginning steps at least. kzitem.info/news/bejne/wKB3s3WppX6jaZw
