As someone who's just getting into karting, these videos are GREAT! I love this whole series, the behind the scenes stuff is a nice change from only seeing race footage.

What makes a rain tire slower than others? Soft vs hard compound?
@brentkadler2870

rain tires are very very soft and sticky. If you push your finger tip into the tire, it will grip onto your finger almost like silly puddy. This makes them very sticky at the track, but they tend to overheat quickly. Without a constant stream of water to cool them, they get too hot and shed their rubber and become worthless in just a few laps. In intermediate conditions, if you can get the 'dry' tire up to temperature, it will adhere better to the road, than an overheated wet tire. There is a big of a gap in performance between the wet and dry tire, which is why some companies sell an 'intermediate' tire. If you can get the dry tire into it's temperature range, it's the best. But i'll be honest, intermediate conditions are really tricky and choosing the correct tire is part luck, part skill, part stupid bravery. Goodluck and have fun!

Yes. I use a Tillet P1 rib protector. It's the best money can buy. Recently i've gotten a new seat and this has helped lots as well.

Great little video Brent. Looks like you had quite the learning experience - and a lot of fun - at my old home track. Seeing your on-track footage brought back a lot of memories. Keep up the good work. Ray Lord

Thanks Ray. I really enjoyed the track, and the overall community in Chilliwack. Learning to drive in questionable conditions is quite the challenge!

thank you for the recommendation. I've tried it on, but wasn't sure if it was worth the extra money. I will look at it again.

@@brentkadler2870 i paid £185 in the uk for mine,i tried an omp protector £100 but it was too soft,having hard /stiff sides definitely stops the rib ache ,and i can honestly say when looking around the pits at uk tracks they are all wearing the p1
