Thank you. Why is it parabolic when the shear stress acts vertically and linear when horizontally?

As I understand it, it's because of the formula for shear stress at those lengths, tho more specifically it has to do with "Q." Shear Flow: VQ/I As V and I would be the same throughout the whole shape what really decides the graph shape is Q. And Q is: Q = (Area) x (Distance) Think of Q as starting from the top right end of the flange (the top right of the letter C) then starting to move left. As you start to move left the "area" increases linearly. As for the Distance, it's the distance from the y centriod of the "Q component" you're looking at to the centroid of the whole shape. That distance does not increase or decrease for the top and bottom flanges. But it does change for the middle web section. Because for the middle web section (middle of the letter C), the distance is decreasing as you approach the middle of the global centroid that makes the slope you saw. That was a lot of words, but I hope it made some sense
